    HDFC Bank provides insurance to its credit card users. HDFC credit card users can do a minimum of 4 transactions in a month to become eligible for this insurance coverage. The bank provides two types of coverage that includes – accidental death and purchase protection.

    Accidental Death Insurance

    HDFC Bank credit card users are eligible for the accidental death insurance when they complete more than 4 transactions using their HDFC Bank credit card. This insurance provides insurance up to 5 times the credit limit of the user’s credit card. The amount can go up to Rs.50,00,000.

    Features of the Accidental Death Insurance

    The various features of the accidental death insurance are mentioned below:

    • The Accidental Death Sum Insured shall not exceed 5 times the credit card holder's credit limit, subject to a maximum of Rs. 50,00,000.
    • Apart from the succeeding month coverage from the date of accident, the cardholder would be entitled for a valid claim in the month of policy inception with 4 non-ATM swipes / E commerce transactions.
    • Only the primary card holders are eligible for this cover.
    • In order to be eligible for a claim, the cardholder must have 4 non-ATM swipes / E-Commerce transactions in the month prior to the date of the accident.
    • Personal Accident coverage is available all around the world. The coverage only covers accidental death as a result of a rail or road accident.
    • This insurance coverage doesn’t cover accidental death caused due to – suicide, nuclear energy risk, injury caused by surgery, offshore activities, under influence of alcohol or drugs.

    Documents Required to Claim Accidental Death Insurance

    The documents that a user need for the accidental death insurance are mentioned below:

    • Filled and signed application form (In the right-hand corner of the claim form, the customer should write "HDFC Bank Credit Card Claim" and leave the policy no: field blank.)
    • Municipal authorities issued death certificate
    • Death summary and medical documents issued by the hospital
    • Postmortem report
    • Copy of police FIR
    • Prior to the date of loss, the last one month's credit card statement
    • Chemical analysis Report/Viscera Report/Histopathological Report (if applicable)
    • Report of final police investigation
    • Copy of credit card
    • Legal heir certificate from the collector's office/civil court if the claimant is not registered
    • Nominee’s NEFT detail
    • Duly filled KYC form
    • KYC documents of card holder and nominee

    How to Apply for Accidental Death Insurance

    Follow the steps mentioned below to apply for the accidental death insurance:

    Step 1: The legal heir has to inform about any accidental death to bankclaims@hdfcergo.com within 30 days of the death.

    Step 2: Within 60 days of the date of loss, the legal heir must file all applicable claims documents  at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com.

    Step 3: If any extra documentation is required, HDFC Ergo will check and respond within 3 working days.

    Step 4: If all of the paperwork is in order, HDFC Ergo will process the claim and deposit the funds into the claimant's/account, customer's which was submitted with the claim document.

    Step 5: In the event that a claim is repudiated, the claimant will receive a repudiation letter from the insurance company, along with the explanation for the repudiation.

    Purchase Protection for Fire and Burglary Insurance

    Coverage is applicable for 180 days after purchase and is limited to assets acquired using HDFC Bank Credit Cards for more than Rs.5,000. The coverage limit for Personal Portable Equipment is Rs. 25,000 per item. A maximum Sum Insured of Rs.2,00,000 is available for any other assets.

    Articles purchased with your insured HDFC Bank Credit Card are protected under the Fire and Burglary Protection, providing the Cardholder declares the value and date of purchase (first 180 days cover from the date of purchase of the articles). It is critical that customers report any such loss, damage, or injury to the Bank within 48 hours of the occurrence.

    Articles flammable in nature, motor vehicles / pedal cycle deeds, bonds, bills of exchange, promissory notes, share certificates, business books, manuscripts, any sort of document, unset precious stones, jewelry, and valuables are not covered by the insurance.

    Documents Required to Claim Purchase Protection for Fire and Burglary Insurance

    The documents that one needs to claim purchase protection for fire and burglary insurance are mentioned below:

    • Filled and signed application form (In the right-hand corner of the claim form, the customer should write "HDFC Bank Credit Card Claim" and leave the policy no: field blank.)
    • Police FIR/ any kind of police acknowledgement report
    • Transactions summary provided by the claimant
    • Invoice copy/charge slip copy of the damaged/lost item
    • Any communication from the cell carrier regarding the SIM card restriction is required. (In the case of a stolen or misplaced phone)
    • Credit card statement, 6 months prior to the date of loss

    How to Claim Purchase Protection for Fire and Burglary Insurance

    Follow the steps that are mentioned below to claim purchase protection for fire and burglary insurance:

    Step 1: The customer should inform about their loss at bankclaims@hdfcergo.com within 15 days of the loss.

    Step 2: Customer must send all applicable claim documents to bankclaims@hdfcergo.com within 45 days of the date of loss.
