    To commemorate International Women's Day, the government of Telangana announced a holiday for all women employees on 8 March 2022. This would be taken as a special casual leave via a Government Order (GO).

    The Telangana Government declared a holiday on 28 September 2021 for Government offices and educational institutions keeping heavy rainfall in view. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar also stated that government departments like Municipal, Revenue, Police, Panchayati Raj, Roads and Building and Irrigation should be on emergency duty considering the forecast of heavy rainfall for the next two days, to avoid life and property damage.

    The Government of Telangana in order to commemorate Women’s Day announced a holiday for all the women employees in the state according to a press statement issued by the Chief Minister's office on Sunday.

  • November 3 declared a local holiday for Dubbak constituency in Telangana on account of the by-elections

    The District Collector, P.Venkatrami Reddy, has declared that November 3 will be a holiday for the by-elections in Dubbak Assembly Constituency. The Telangana government had earlier issued a government order that permitted the District Collector, who is also the District Election Officer, to decide which day should be a holiday among the days of 2, 3, and 10 November.

  • 2-day holiday in Hyderabad and surrounding areas

    The Government of Telangana Government declared a 2-day public holiday in GHMC areas for all the government offices, all private institutions on October 14 and October15.

    The Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao announced the decision to declare the 2-day holiday. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar issued the holiday order.

    The Chief Secretary has also asked the GHMC officials and district collectors to arrange relief camps and ensure people living in lying areas to shift to safer areas.

    The Government has also asked people not to come out unless necessary.

  • January 22 declared holiday for Telangana areas during civic polls

    District collectors have been issued orders by the State Election Commission to declare a local holiday on 22 January in areas where polling would be conducted for the municipal elections. The Commissioner of Labor has directed that it be a paid holiday for establishments and shops in areas where elections are held. This would be under the Telangana Shops and Establishment Act. Managements of public undertakings have been requested to let off their employees for 3 hours for voting purposes on that day if they are outside the municipal areas. The elections will be conducted in 9 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities.

  • Telangana to get 5 holidays for Sankranti

    Earlier, the Telangana government had announced a six-day holiday for schools on occasion of Sankranti. However, the government has reduced the number of holidays to five. All schools will remain open on 11 January 2020. Vijay Kumar, the Education Department Commissioner, passed an order stating that all colleges and schools will work on 11 January 2020. Earlier, the education department had requested all colleges and schools to remain open on all second Saturdays from January to April as the Dasara holidays were extended because of the TSRTC strike. However, the teachers’ union expressed dissatisfaction because of the announcement made by the government. According to them, they had already booked tickets to go to their hometown because of the festival holidays. An appeal has been made by the Telangana State United Teachers’ Federation (TSUTF) to the government to reconsider the decision.

  • Educational institutions in Telangana reopened on 21 October after TSRTC strike

    Educational institutions in Telangana reopened on 21 October after a prolonged strike by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation workers, which, however, is still continuing. The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, stated that bus passes would still be valid. The Transport Joint Commissioner and Secretary stated that the bus fare would be the same. Although the colleges and schools were supposed to reopen on 14 October, it had to be postponed because their buses were used for public transportation instead. The strike had begun on 15 October over more than 25 demands raised by the workers.

  • KCR government extends Dussehra holiday

    The Telangana Government led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a meeting to discuss the ongoing Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) strike on Sunday.

    The government has also decided to extend the Dussehra holidays for all the schools and colleges in India till October 20.

    The employees from TSRTC have called for a strike on October 19. However, the transport will be operational for the next three days.

    The government has made it clear that TSRTC employees who are not part of the strike will be paid the salary. The government is also planning to rehire retired TSRTC drivers and police drivers in order to operate buses in Telangana.

  • Public Holiday in Telangana on the Election Day

    Telangana government has declared 11th April (Thursday) as a public holiday in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

    The polling is going to take place for 17 parliamentary constituencies in the state. All the government offices and educational institutions in the polling areas hence remain closed on the Election Day.

    However, the offices and schools which act as polling centers are given two-day holiday on both 10th and 11th of April for the arrangements.

    For all the companies, factories and shops within the 17 polling areas, the government has declared a paid holiday.

    The state chief secretary, SK Joshi has sent a notification in the same regard to all the district collectors. 

    Apparently, the government has also decided to declare 23rd May also as a holiday as it the election results day.
