News About BSE Holiday

  • Nifty, Sensex to Remain Closed Today for Lok Sabha Elections in Mumbai

    NSE Nifty and BSE Sensex along with forex and bond, and commodity markets will remain closed today on 29 April 2019, for Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai. A circular by NSE on 26 March 2019 informed that 29 April 2019 has been declared a trading holiday on account of Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai. The Parliamentary Elections will be conducted in seven phases, beginning on 11 April 2019 to 19 May 2019 and the counting of votes will take place on 23 May 2019. Meanwhile, the Indian equity markets continued to consolidate for the fourth consecutive week as Nifty managed to gain marginally. Markets were influenced by the crude oil price in the global market and weakening rupee against the US dollar. International benchmark Brent Crude oil futures, that had declined to nearly $50 per barrel is now around $75. Brent crude prices have increased by more than 35% in this year so far, while the Indian currency continued to weaken and touched a six-week low of against the US dollar.

  • BSE and NSE closed on Friday

    The financial markets will remain closed on Friday due to the occasion of Good Friday. As per reports, the rupee closed at 69.71 per dollar. The 10-year benchmark bond yield closed at 7.54%. 

    The benchmark BSE index ended up 0.95% at a record closing high of 39,275.64. Earlier, the markets were closed on Wednesday due to Mahavir Jayanti.

  • BSE, NSE To Extend Trading Hours on Dhanteras

    The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be extending trading in gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) and sovereign gold bonds on Dhanteras this year, they have announced. The festival of Dhanteras, which falls on 5th November this year, is considered an auspicious time to buy and invest in gold.

    The exchanges will commence the special trading session at 4:30 pm and live trading in gold will continue till 7:00 pm on 5th November, 2018.

    Gold ETFs track the yellow metal’s prices and one unit of an ETF is approximately equal to one gram of gold. Sovereign gold bonds meanwhile are a government-issued securities alternative to owning physical gold.

  • Indian markets remain closed on Thursday on account of Muharram

    The stock, foreign exchange and debt markets are closed on Thursday on account of Muharram. On Wednesday, the partially convertible INR closed at 72.37 per dollar against its Tuesday’s close of 72.97. On Wednesday, the benchmark 10-year yield closed Wednesday at 8.07% against its earlier close of 8.14%. The broader Nifty index closed down by 0.39% at 11,234.35 and at the same time, the benchmark Sensex closed down 0.45% at 37,121.22.
