Eid al-Adha commemorates the story of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) son to Allah. According to the story, Allah appeared in the dream of Ibrahim and commanded him to give a test of faith by sacrificing his son.

Ibrahim informed his son about Allah’s command. Satan tried dissuading Ibrahim, but he threw stones to drive him away. To avoid seeing the face of his son during sacrifice, Ibrahim blindfolded himself.

Allah intervened just as Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son. Allah revealed that sacrifice had already been fulfilled and he had passed the test.
