News About Goa Holidays in 2019

  • April 23 declared as a holiday by Goa government

    The Goa government has declared April 23 as a holiday. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the fact that it is the polling day for the general elections and the bye-elections to the legislative assembly.  

    An official statement released on Friday stated that it would be a paid holiday for industrial workers and daily wage workers in government departments. 

    It needs to be mentioned here that Goa sends two representatives to the lower house of the parliament. The results of the two Lok Sabha seats and the bye-elections will be declared a month after the elections are held i.e., May 23.

  • Goa Declares Holiday Today, 3 Days of State Mourning

    The state government of Goa, as a mark of respect to the passing away of Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis Dsouza on Thursday, declared three day mourning and ordered state government offices, local and autonomous bodies, public sector undertaking and all educational institutions to remain closed on 15 February 2019. The Under Secretary (GA-II) issued a notification late in the evening to this effect. Also, as mark of respect, three-day state mourning will be observed across the state of Goa from 15 February to 17 February 2019. The former Goa Deputy Chief Minister has been elected for five terms from Mapusa constituency. He passed away after a prolonged illness on Thursday afternoon. Mr D’souza was appointed as Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister in 2012.
