An important Hindu festival in India is the Jyeshtha Amavasya or Vat Savitri Vrat. The festival is celebrated as Jyeshtha Amavasya in states such as Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, while it is celebrated as Vat Purnima Vrat in the southern states, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
On the day of the festival, Hindu women fast and pray for the long life and good health of their husbands.
