Vat Savitri Vrat 2021

An important Hindu festival in India is the Jyeshtha Amavasya or Vat Savitri Vrat. The festival is celebrated as Jyeshtha Amavasya in states such as Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, while it is celebrated as Vat Purnima Vrat in the southern states, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

On the day of the festival, Hindu women fast and pray for the long life and good health of their husbands. In 2021, Jyeshtha Amavasya was celebrated on 10 June, whereas, Vat Purnima Vrat will be celebrated on 10 June.

Significance

The festival is celebrated in honour of Devi Savitri, who compelled the Lord of Death (Yama Raj) to provide life to her dead husband. On this day, women pray to a Banyan tree. As per the Hindu Lunar calendars, celebrations are conducted twice a year.
