Japan Tourist Visa Fees

The application fee that is required to be paid by Indian nationals in order to avail a Japan tourist visa is Rs.490 for both single and multiple entries. However, if you apply through travel agencies, a service charge would also be needed to be paid. In case, you apply through VFS Global, a service charge of Rs.650, which is inclusive of all taxes, will be levied. If the visa application is filed through Cox and Kings Global Services, Rs.600 would be charged as service fees.

Japan Tourist Visa Requirements

To apply for a Japan tourist visa, an applicant needs to submit the following documents if it is a self-arranged visit:

  • Filled visa application form.
  • Passport.
  • Travel itinerary and hotel booking.
  • Documents which prove that he/she can pay for the travel expenses while in the country like bank statements of the last six months or the latest income tax return.

In case, a trip to the country is taken with the purpose of tourism for Indian students, the documents listed below must be submitted:

  • Visa application form.
  • Valid passport (along with the old one, if any).
  • Copy of the first and last page of the current passport.
  • Confirmed travel and hotel booking.
  • Cover letter stating the purpose of visit and the day to day details.
  • Proof of student status.

Photo Requirements for Japan Tourist Visa

The photo that is affixed on the visa application form must fulfil the points mentioned below:

  • The size of the photograph must be 45mm x 45mm (2 inches x 2 inches) with white background.
  • The photo should be in colour
  • The photograph should be easily identifiable.
  • The photo must be clicked within six months before filing the application.
  • The photo should be clear and the applicant must not be wearing any headgear.

How to apply for Japan Tourist Visa?

In order to apply for a Japan tourist visa, the applicant is required to visit the Japan Embassy or the Consulate-Generals. After visiting the Embassy or the Consulate-General, he/she is required to follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Duly fill the visa application form.
  • Attach the necessary documents that need to be submitted.
  • Pay the requisite fees.

Japan Tourist Visa Processing Time

As per the Japan Embassy, the time taken for processing a Japan tourist visa application is 1 day, which is excluding the date of submission of the application form to the authorities.

In case, the visa application is submitted to travel agencies like VFS Global or Cox and Kings Global Services, the time taken to process the application varies between 3 to 7 days.

  • Japan simplifies visa policies for Indian passport holders

    From January 1, 2018, Japan will ease the visa policies for Indian Passport holders. Visitors applying for Tourists and Business Visa under the multiple-entry scheme will no longer need to provide an explanation letter and/or employment certificate to complete the application process. Moreover, if a visitor has been to Japan more than twice in the past one year, he/she will only need to submit the visa application form along with the passport. In addition to changes to the visa policy, Japan has also reduced the number of documents which were earlier required for the application.

    In a bid to promote tourism in Japan, the nation's government has decided to ease the visa application process for Indian Passport holders. The new policy allows an Indian applicant to only produce three documents to be eligible for a 5-year visa which will allow him/her to stay up to a maximum of 90 days at a time. The simplified multiple-entry visa can be obtained by producing a valid Indian passport, completed visa application form, and proof of sufficient funds to support the trip. Based on the individual's profile and travel requirements, he/she may need to submit additional documents. The new policy will be active from January 1, 2018.
