News About How to Apply for a Visa to Australia

  • Australia Could Introduce 5 Year Continuous Stay Visa for Migrants Parents

The Coalition government in Australia has proposed introducing a 5 year continuous stay visa for parents of Australian migrants if it is voted back into power. If this proposal is implemented, it would mean parents of Australian migrants would no longer need to file a concurrent parental visa application.

While seen as a poll gimmick, the step would help attract more skilled migrants to the country, who are put off by Australia's strict visa and residency laws.

The proposal would have parents coming on these visas register with a private Australian health care provider for an extended period of time so as to cover possible healthcare costs without burdening the public healthcare system.

The visa applicants would also have to pay a bond based on the Assurance of Support Scheme.

These measures are primarily targeted at Indian and Chinese immigrants, who represent a large portion of the skilled migrant population in the country.
