H1B Lottery

To comprehend the H-1B visa lottery, you must first comprehend the H-1B visa. It is a United States of America government-issued temporary work visa for foreign nationals. It's a visa for people who work in specialised fields. The worker's employer is responsible for filing the visa application on his or her behalf. The visa is granted on the presumption that the employee's job will necessitate the theoretical and practical application of highly specialised expertise. Engineering, information technology, and science are among the professions that are being evaluated. A lottery system is used to select H-1B visa applicants.

H-1B Visa Lottery – FY2019

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is in charge of issuing visas, keeps people up to date on the progress of the visa lottery on its website. The maximum number of visas that can be given each year is capped. The US Congress imposed this limit, which must be followed.

Because the US gets a large number of H-1B visa petitions each year, the lottery system is utilised to choose which petitions are evaluated. As of FY22, the H-1B category has a maximum of 37,000.

What happens after the petitions have been received?

The department will not process any more petitions after the deadline for submission has passed. The others will be denied, and the applicants' filing expenses will be refunded.
