  • How To Fill Out Indian Visa Application Form

    An Indian visa is one of the most important documents necessary for individuals who are not Indians to be able to enter the country, apart from their passport. This article will talk about the details that are necessary while filling out the Indian Visa application form.

    The following information will have to be provided:

    • Surname: This refers to the applicant’s last name or family name and the spelling should be exactly the same as that in the applicant’s passport.
    • First Name: Also known as a Given Name, this must be provided along with the applicant’s Middle name and must be identical to what is given in the passport.
    • In case applicants have changed their name at any point, they must check the box that says ‘yes’ and provide their full name including first, middle and last that was used previously.
    • Country of Birth: Customers will have to enter the name of the country that they were born in. they must ensure that this information matches the one is given in the Passport.
    • Email address: Customers must mandatorily provide this information even if some forms allow them to skip this as certain consulates require email addresses.
    • National/Citizenship Identity Number: In case individuals do not have a National Identity number issued, they can type N/A.
    • Religion: Customers must select their religion and in case that particular religion is not mentioned then they can select ‘Others’ and type in the relevant name in the provided space.
    • Identification marks: If applicants have a visible mark that can be used for identification such as a tattoo or birthmark, it must be provided, else they can type ‘NONE’.
    • Educational Qualification: Applicants must select their education level from the options provided:
      • Below Matriculation, when the applicant has not studied beyond 10th grade .
      • Graduate, when the applicant has a university or college level education.
      • Higher secondary, when the applicant has high school education.
      • Illiterate, when the applicant has not been educated.
      • Matriculation, when the applicant has a 10th grade level education.
      • Post graduate, when the applicant has studied beyond university or college level.
      • Professional, when the individual has technical/professional training or certification.
    • Applicants will have to provide information regarding whether their citizenship is by birth or through naturalization. In case it is by naturalization, they must mention their previous nationality.

    Passport Details Section

    The following section deals with the information that they have to provide regarding their passport.

    • Customers have to provide information regarding where the passport was issued.
    • Applicants will have to mention that date on which their passport expires.
    • Pakistani passport holders will also have to give other details such as their booklet number, tracking number and so on.
    • In case an applicant holds a green card from the USA or permanent resident cards from other countries, they will have to mention this.

    Once these details have been mentioned, they must select the ‘Save and Continue/Exit’ option so that they do not lose their data.

    Address Details Section

    • Applicants must provide details of their current residential address under the ‘Present Address’ section. Additionally, they will also have to provide proof of that address by giving their Driving Licence, Utility bill or a copy of their lease. Applicants must note that a maximum of 35 letters are allowed in this space.
    • Customers must also provide details of their ‘Permanent Address’ under the relevant heading. In case their permanent address is the same as the address that they mentioned for ‘current address’, they will have to tick the relevant box. In case it is different, details should be provided along with proof.
      • For citizens of non-US countries, their permanent address must be one in their home country, and if they do not maintain one, then they must mention the address of one of their relative’s.

    Section on Family Details

    • Applicant’s must mention the name of their mother, father, and spouse, if applicable.
    • In case the applicant’s paternal or maternal grandparents are from Pakistan, they will have to mention the details. If not, they must remember to check the box that says ‘NO’.

    Section on Occupation/Profession Details

    • Customers have to select a profession from the list that matches their current job the best.
    • In case the applicant is a student, minor or a homemaker, they must enter their father’s or their spouse’s occupation details.
    • They should mention the name of their employer or company that they are working with.
    • Applicants will have to enter their designation and the address of their employer/company.
    • Applicants will also have to provide their phone number and details of their previous job.
    • In case applicants were working with a military, security, semi-military or police organization, they will have to tick the relevant box and provide necessary details such as name of the Organization, rank, designations and post.

    Once these details have been mentioned, they must select the ‘Save and Continue/Exit’ option so that they do not lose their data.

    Details of Visa that is being procured

    • While applying for a visa, applicants will have to select the type of visa that they require and provide additional information such as -
      • Duration of the visa, and these usually varies from 6 months to 120 months.
      • Number of entries such as single, double, triple and multiple entries.
      • Applicants will have to mention the purpose of their visit along with their expected date of travelling.
      • Applicants will also have to mention the name of the city that they will be in when they first arrive in the country.

    Additional Information that is required (depending on the type of visa that is required)

    • Indian Business Visa - Applicants will have to provide their name, phone number, address, and email address of the company in India that they will work with.
    • Indian Business Visa Transfer - Customers will have to provide the details of the visa that will have to be transferred along with the passport from which the visa needs to be transferred.
    • Indian Conference Visa - Applicants will have to mention the number of days that they will stay in India for.
    • Indian Diplomatic Visa - Applicants will need to provide additional documentation and information based on the Consulate’s request.
    • Indian Employment Visa - Customers will need to provide their professional qualification, name and address of their employer in India, their designation in India along with their salary that will be paid here.
    • Indian Entry Visa - Applicants will need to provide additional documentation and information based on the Consulate’s request.
    • Indian Entry Visa Transfer - Applicants will have to give details of the visa to be transferred along with passport from which the visa needs to be transferred.
    • Indian Journalist Visa - Applicants will need to provide additional documentation and information based on the Consulate’s request.
    • Indian Medical Attendant Visa - Name of the patient along with their passport number.
    • Indian Transit Visa - The country that the applicant will visit prior to and after transiting India. If the applicant has a residency or visa for that country.

    Details of Previous Visit

    • In case the applicant has visited India previously, they will have to tick the box that says ‘Yes’ and provide details of this visit such as the places stayed at and visited and the previous visa.
    • The applicant will also have to mention if their permission to visit or extend their stay in India has been refused or not.

    Additional Information

    • Applicants will mention the countries that they have visited in the last 10 years.
    • Name, phone and address of their reference in India and reference in the Canada and United States.

    Once these details have been mentioned, they must select the ‘Save and Continue/Exit’ option so that they do not lose their data.

    In case they need to edit something, they will have to select ‘Modify/Edit’. Once they are sure about their answers, they should select the option ‘Verified and Continue’.

    Once they have completed the form and have submitted it, they will get a confirmation number including File and Applicant number. This File number is not the same as Temporary Application ID. This form can also be printed. Customers must note that corrections cannot be handwritten. If corrections need to be made after submitting a form, the application form will have to be filled in all over again.

    Tips to Keep in Mind:

    Following are some of the important tips to keep in mind while filling out the Indian Visa application form.

    • Applicants must note that they have to choose the relevant Indian Mission (Consulate) when they apply.
    • When individuals are applying for their Visa, at the top of the page, they will see an ID for temporary application. They must remember to save this ID as information may get lost otherwise.
    • Indian Visas are generally provided for a periods that can range from 6 months to 10 years based on the nature of Visa, the fee along with the citizenship of the applicant.
    • Once applicants have finished answering all of their questions, they will have an option to review and verify their answers on the final page. This is a chance for applicants to correct whatever mistakes they have made as they will not be able to edit it after this. This form will then have to be printed.
    • Applicants must print the application on two pages and sign them on both pages.
