With the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deciding to grant free transit visas for two days, which can be extended for up to 96 hours by paying 50 Dirham, transit passengers can enjoy a short stay in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While the implementation date has not yet been decided, the UAE government has announced that it will set up a number of express counter at the passport-control hall across UAE airports through which quick transit visa can be obtained.

It needs to be mentioned that India is already the number one international tourist source market for Dubai as per the data received from Dubai’s Tourism department. According to the numbers provided by the department, nearly 1.8 crore Indians travel to UAE every year with Dubai and Abu Dhabi being the top tourist destinations. As such, the decision to grant free 48-hour transit visas is expected to further increase the number of visitors visiting the country.

Apart from the decision of introducing the free transit visas for two days, UAE has also announced a number of changes in its visa rules. The country has approved a few new visa rules that include a review of the current residency system, the introduction of a new 6-month visa for job seekers who overstayed their visa with the wish of working in the country and renewing visa by paying a fee.
