How you can enable your International Usage for SBI Debit Cards

For State Bank of India customers that are travelling abroad and wish for the debit card that they are holding to be used in a foreign land to make transactions and withdrawals, then they can enable the international usage in just a few steps. State Bank of India customers have four options to enable international usage - via the SBI Anywhere app, through the internet banking facility, via the SBI Quick Banking facility and lastly through SMS. For those who wish to enable the international usage of their debit card (which is possible for select SBI debit cards), they can follow the steps mentioned below.

Steps to enable international usage of SBI debit cards through SBI Anywhere

Customers can follow the steps mentioned below to enable international usage of SBI debit cards using the SBI app:

  • Login to SBI Anywhere using your username and password.
  • Once on the app, click on “debit card services”.
  • Next, choose the “manage debit card” option.
  • Select the debit card you wish to enable international usage. Choose the card number as well.
  • Next, turn the “international usage” button on. Choose the ATM limit and so on.
  • After that, to make international fund transfers, turn on the E-Commerce (CNP) txns.

One this is done, you can use your State Bank of India debit card to make domestic as well as international transactions and ATM withdrawals.

Steps to enable international usage of SBI debit card through the SBI internet banking facility

Customers can follow the steps mentioned below to enable international usage for their SBI debit card via the SBI internet banking facility:

  • Login to your SBI internet banking account using your username and password.
  • Once you have logged in, click on the e-services tab.
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, click on “ATM services”.
  • Click on the “ATM Card Limit/Channel/Usage Change” option.
  • Now, choose the card number you wish to enable international usage and the channel type.
  • Choose “enable CPN channel”.
  • Under Select service, change the usage type to international.
  • Click on “submit”.

By doing so, your international usage for your SBI debit card would be activated .

Steps to enable international usage of SBI debit card through the SBI Quick Banking

Customers that do not have the internet banking facility can use the SBI Quick Banking option to activate the international usage of their card:

  • Login to your SBI Anywhere using your username and password.
  • Once you have logged in, click on the “SBI Quick” option on the bottom of your screen.
  • Under “SBI Quick”, choose the “ATM cum debit card” option.
  • Now, click on the “ATM card Switch On/Off” tab.
  • Enter the last four digits of the card number which you wish to activate the international usage.
  • Choose all the other options you wish to activate and click on “submit”.

Your international usage for your SBI debit card will now be activated through the SBI Quick Banking facility.

Steps to enable international usage of SBI debit card through SMS

Another easy way of enabling your International usage of your debit card is via the SMS option. For this, the SBI customer has to send a message to 9223966666 in the following formats - SWON POS 1234 - SWON ECOM 1234 - SWON INTL 1234. Note, 1234 is an example of the last four digits of your debit card that you wish to enable international usage for. For this to be a possibility, the customer has to have his/her mobile number registered with State Bank of India.

1. If I do not have the app or the internet banking facility of State Bank of India, is it possible for me to do this at the bank branch holding my account?

Yes, you can enable the international usage of your SBI debit card at the bank branch as well. Using the SBI app and the internet banking facility is just a more convenient option.

2. Will I be charged for activating the international usage on my SBI debit card?

For the options of activating your international usage for your SBI debit card through the SBI Anywhere app and the internet banking facility, there will be no charges. However, for the SMS option, regular SMS charges will be applicable.

3. Will I be able to use my debit card domestically if I activate the international usage option?

You will be able to use your card locally as well after activating the international usage.

4. Activating the international usage on my debit card means that I won’t be charged for transactions and withdrawals abroad?

You won’t be charged as much as compared to using a domestic card abroad, but you will be charged for foreign currency conversion, and a few other charges that will be nominal.

5. Will my debit card be accepted anywhere abroad after enabling the international usage?

It depends on the type of debit card that your are using and the card associate. Check with the bank before you travel abroad.
