North Bay Island

Places to Visit in Andaman and Nicobar

This beautiful island is mainly known for its marine life such as lobsters, clownfish, and stonefish. You can have a semi-submarine ride which goes deep inside the ocean so that you can view the wonderful sight of sea life without getting wet. You can reach there in 15-20 minutes by boat from Phoenix Jetty in Port Blair. An interesting fact about the North Bay Island is that the picture of this island appears on the back of the 20 Rupee note. 

Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex

This sports complex is in Port Blair, and it is also known as the Andaman Water Sports Complex. You can do multiple water activities such as parasailing, paddle boating, banana boat rides, and jet skiing. The Battle of Aberdeen also took place at the same location in 1859. You can easily reach it by road as it is only 7-8 kilometers from Port Blair. This complex is very near to Cellular Jail, which is another tourist spot. The complex timings are from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

Havelock Island

This is a very famous island in the Andaman and Nicobar and it is known for its natural beauty. It has green forests, white sandy beaches, and clear blue waters which attract the tourist attraction. Elephant Beach and Radhanagar Beach are the two main beaches of this island. You can do activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving with the help of expert trainers and watch the aquatic life. You can visit between October and February as it is considered to be the favorable time to visit this Island. 

Waterfalls at Little Andaman

Little Andaman has two beautiful waterfalls. One is White Surf Waterfall which is 6.5 kilometers from Hut Bay Jetty. It is a great spot for a family picnic. When the water falls from the hills then it makes a white spray. The second waterfall is Whisper Wave which is 25 kilometers from Hut Bay Jetty. It is covered by dense forest, and you have to walk around 4 kilometers through the jungle. 

Neil Island

This is a very beautiful and small island which is covered with green forests and sandy beaches. Its beaches are well known due to coral formation, water sports activities, and beautiful sunsets. You can easily reach Neil Island by taking a ferry from Havelock or Port Blair. You can also visit beaches like Sitapur/Sunrise Beach, Bharatpur Beach, Ramnagar Beach, Laxmanpur Beach. It is preferable to visit the island between the months of October to May. 

Alfred Caves

These are 41 limestone caves that are in the dense forest of Diglipur. These caves were named after a British officer/scientist who discovered them, Alfred. You need to get a local guide from Ramnagar to reach there as he will help you to navigate the forest. To explore the caves, you need a full day, so it is best to start going there in the early morning and return by evening. You may go between October and February as it is said to be the best time to visit this Island. 

Cellular Jail

It is an old colonial prison in Port Blair which is also named as ’Kala Pani’. It was constructed by the Britishers when they were ruling over India. Britishers used this jail to send Indian political prisoners away. But now this jail is a national memorial which is managed by the Government of India. You can learn so many things about our history by visiting this prison. This jail also reminds us of the sacrifices that were made by our Indian freedom fighters. 

Viper Island

This island is situated in Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar. Before the Cellular Jail, Britishers used this Island to keep the freedom fighters in very bad condition. The island was destroyed in a recent tsunami, but it is still an important place to visit because of its history. You can reach there by taking the ferry ride from Aberdeen Jetty. You can visit many places around Viper Island such as Samudra Marine Museum, New India Cafe, Lighthouse Residency and, Chatham Saw Mill. 

Elephant Beach

Elephant Beach is a popular spot in the Andaman and Nicobar where you can do adventurous water sports activities like snorkeling, banana boat rides, speed boating, and scuba diving. You can explore marine life because the water of this beach is very clear and full of corals. You can reach Elephant Beach either by a ferry from Havelock Jetty or by trekking for half an hour with a guide from Radhanagar Beach. The beach timings are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park

This park is situated on the south-western coast of the Andaman Islands, and it is about 25 kilometers from Port Blair. The other name of this national park is Wandur National Park. This park is responsible for protecting marine life such as corals and sea turtles. It is a great spot for activities such as snorkeling and diving. It has crystal-clear waters, white beaches with sand, and amazing coral reefs. 

Rangat

It is a very large island which is situated in the Middle Andaman. It is famous for its natural beauty and this island is surrounded by clean beaches, green forests, waterfalls, and many animals. You can do many fun activities here such as photography, trekking, and visiting Panchvati Waterfalls. You can also visit Yerrata Mangrove Park, Dhaninallah Beach, Cuthbert Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and Moricedera Beach.
