Narasimha Jayanti 2026

Narasimha Jayanti is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Narasimha, who is the fourth avatar of Vishnu. Lord Narasimha is believed to have a half-man and half-lion form. According to Hindu belief, he appeared to protect his devotee Prahlada by killing the demon king Hiranyakashipu.

This festival usually falls in the Hindu month of Vaisakha. In 2026, Narasimha Jayanti will be celebrated on 30th April. On this day, devotees pray to Lord Narasimha for protection, courage, and the victory of good over evil. People visit temples, observe fasts, chant prayers, and read stories about Lord Narasimha. The Sayana Kala Puja takes place between 04:17 p.m. and 06:56 p.m., with a puja duration of 2 hours 39 minutes.

Story of Narasimha

The story of Lord Narasimha is a well-known story in Hindu mythology. A long time ago, there was a powerful demon king whose name was Hiranyakashipu. He prayed for many years to Lord Brahma. Brahma ji got happy with his prayers and appeared in front of him. Hiranyakashipu asked that he should not be killed by a man or an animal, not during the day or night, not inside or outside a house, not on the ground or in the sky, and not by any weapon.

After getting this power, Hiranyakashipu became very proud. He wanted everyone to treat him like a god and worship only him. But his son Prahlada was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Prahlada prayed to Vishnu every day and refused to worship his father.

This made Hiranyakashipu very angry. He tried many times to punish and kill Prahlada, but each time Lord Vishnu protected him. One day, Hiranyakashipu asked Prahlada, “Where is your God?” Prahlada said that Vishnu is everywhere. The king then pointed to a pillar and asked if Vishnu was inside this pillar, and Prahlada said yes. Hiranyakashipu then hit the pillar and suddenly, Lord Narasimha appeared from the pillar. He had the body of a man and the face of a lion. At sunset, he placed Hiranyakashipu on his lap at the doorway and killed him with his sharp claws. In this way, the unique power given by Lord Brahma was not broken.

This story teaches that God protects those who have true faith, and good always wins over evil.
