Gujarat Day

Gujarat Day, or Gujarat Sthapana Divas, is the day to celebrate the formation of the state of Gujarat. This day is observed on May 1 every year. In 1960, as per the Bombay Reorganisation Act, Gujarat came into being as the land of the Gujarati-speaking community. 

History

The name Gujarat is derived from the Gujjars, who ruled the region in the 7th and 8th centuries. Later it was ruled by many other mighty dynasties, such as the Guptas, Mauryas, and Pratiharas. Numerous Indus Valley sites can be found in Gujarat, exhibiting the state’s rich heritage. Situated in the western region of India, Gujarat is known for its immense economic growth and diverse culture. Gujarat is also known as the birthplace of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
