Significance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2022

Born in Cuttack, Odisha, Subhas Chandra Bose was born in a well-off family. A brilliant student, Netaji ranked second in the matriculation examination and fourth in the Indian Civil Services (ICS) examination. He quit his high-paying ICS job and came back to India from England in 1921 to join India’s struggle for independence. Initially a member of INC (Indian National Congress), Netaji opined that to earn freedom, it’s necessary to wage war against the British.

He formed the Azad Hind Fauj, a military regiment designed to counter the British. With socialist beliefs and thoughts, Netaji inspired millions of youths to join the struggle for independence.

  • Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday to be a national holiday as per the Central Government

    The BJP government, on 19 January had stated that Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s birthday which is on 23 January will be celebrated as a national holiday. The day of his birthday will be celebrated as ‘Parakram Diwas’ which will start in 2021 which will mark the freedom fighter’s 125th birth anniversary.

    The Centre’s decision comes a few months ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal. For many years, Netaji’s birthday on 23 January has been popularly celebrated as Desh Prem Diwas or Patriots’ Day.
