Significance of Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti
It is believed that the legendary Hindu King ruled around 5,000 years ago. Born to King Vallabah of Pratapnagar, now Bangladesh, Agrasen Maharaj was part of the Suryavamsh Kshatriya Dynasty. The Agrahari and Agrawal communities are said to be founded by the legendary king.
The capital of the king is believed to have been Agroha (now Haryana). Agrasen Maharaj’s legend and fame from a young age was compassion and not the ability to defeat rivals or conquer. He is said to have been against discrimination and to show equal vision. A popular example of this is the ‘One Brick and One Rupee’ concept. Under this concept, any new family that comes to Agroha will be given one brick and a rupee from every family that lived there. The bricks can be used to build their house and the money was used to do business. On this day, social welfare activities are conducted by many descendants. In order to spread the king’s message of brotherhood and equality, various cultural events, food distribution, and free medical camps are conducted.
