About Guru Ravidas
Guru Ravidas Jayanti marks the birthday of the Indian mystic poet-sant, Ravidas, and is celebrated on Magh Purnima. Ravidas was born in Seer Govardhanpur village, Uttar Pradesh in an underprivileged family. An advocate of human rights, Ravidas was a progressive thinker who spread the message of equality through his poems and teachings based on spirituality.
A known poet, his written verses are included in Sikh scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib. Meera Bai, an eminent personality in the sphere of Hindu spiritualism recognised Guru Ravidas as her spiritual guide. Ravidas is considered as the founder of the 21st-century Ravidassia religion.

How is Guru Ravidas Birthday Celebrated?
Amritbani Guru Ravidas Ji is read to celebrate the Guru’s birthday. A special aarti is performed and a Nagar Kirtan possession is taken out on the streets. Hundreds of devotees gather to take a dip in the river, which forms a part of the customary practice. Prayers are offered in the temples dedicated to Guru Ravidas, especially in the bhawans.
