World Radio Day is celebrated on 13 February every year to generate awareness among people about how crucial radio is in transmitting information to vast audiences anywhere, anytime. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed in its 36th conference in 2011 to celebrate 13 February as World Radio Day.
The theme for 2026’s World Radio Day is “Radio and Climate Change” to emphasize radio’s role in raising awareness mainly during times of distress and natural calamities. Radio is still an important communication medium in places where other forms of communication haven’t reached yet.

The Spanish Radio Academy first proposed the idea of celebrating “World Radio Day” in 2010. On 14 January 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) endorsed UNESCO’s proclamation of World Radio Day.
