History of International Moon Day

International Moon Day

International Moon Day is observed globally on 20th July. Commander Neil Armstrong and the pilots of the lunar module, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, made their first lunar landing on Apollo 11. On 20 July 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin were the first people in history to set foot on the moon. Eight years after President John F.

Kennedy declared the country's intention to send a man to the moon by the end of the 1960s, the historic Apollo 11 mission took place. On 19th July, three days later, the spacecraft reached lunar orbit. The following day, Armstrong and Aldrin's lunar module, Eagle, separated from the main command module. Armstrong radioed the momentous announcement, "The Eagle has landed," to Mission Control in Houston, Texas, as soon as the aircraft impacted the lunar surface.
