Manipal Thoubal Gas’ Supply Stopped by IOC
The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has stopped the supply for LPG gas to one of its distributors, the Manipal Thoubal Gas agency. The reason cited is mismanagement at the gas agency.
The IOC last supplied refill cylinders to the agency on the 11th of June, 2016.
The stoppage of supply has left over 8,000 households who receive their LPG cylinders from Thoubal in the lurch, as there has been no supply for over 2 months now.
When asked about the current status, an IOC official stated that efforts were on to transfer the households to another gas agency to ensure they received their refill cylinders.
However, the transfer process takes a minimum of 2 weeks’ time and is being done in a phased manner, as permission has to be sought from the IOC General Area Manager for each transfer application.
As of now, Athokpam Indane Gas Service and Rbd Indane have been identified as transfer agencies.

PNG Services to be Introduced in Pune’s KCB
The residents of Pune’s Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) will be able to avail the benefits of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections after the area received clearance for the construction of a PNG network in the area. While other residents of Pune have been using the cheaper and more convenient PNG for a while now, KCB residents will now be part of this network.
The City Gas Distribution is looking at increasing the reach of PNG to over 1 crore households, making cooking gas more affordable for residents.
At present, a large number of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) cylinders are in use in the city. With the laying of the PNG network, there would be a lesser reliance on these cylinders, which would make them available for distribution in rural and far-flung areas. As a number of residents in KCB avail of the LPG subsidy, this move would result in a larger number of subsidized LPG cylinders reaching more remote areas.
PNG, in addition to be cheaper than LPG, has additional benefits such as an uninterrupted supply of gas in a less volatile form, making it safer to use.
