How to Download e-Pan Card

The e-PAN contains all the PAN details and can be stored on your computer or smartphone. You can download the e-PAN from the official website of UTIISTSL or NSDL. It can be used for e-verification in case PAN details are required.

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit code that is mandatory for all taxpayers. Apart from receiving the PAN card to the registered address, you can also download the e-PAN online. 

What is e-PAN? 

As the name suggests, e-PAN is the virtual, electronic version of your PAN card. The e-PAN contains all the details of the respective PAN cardholder. Users can download their e-PAN from the official Protean e-Gov Technologies Limited website or the UTIITSL website. 

An e-PAN has the following details furnished in it - 

  1. Permanent Account Number (PAN) 
  2. Name 
  3. Date of Birth 
  4. Father's Name 
  5. Gender 
  6. Photograph 
  7. QR Code 
  8. Signature 

Details Mentioned on e-PAN 

The below-mentioned details are mentioned on the e-PAN: 

  1. PAN number 
  2. Your name 
  3. Your date of birth 
  4. Photograph 
  5. QR Code 
  6. Gender 
  7. Your father's name 
  8. Signature 

Eligibility to Apply for e-PAN 

The below-mentioned criteria must be met in order to apply for an e-PAN: 

  1. You should have an Aadhaar Card
  2. The details mentioned on the Aadhaar Card must be up to date. 
  3. Your mobile number must be linked to the Aadhaar Card. 
  4. You should not have a PAN. 
  5. You should be an individual taxpayer. 
  1. You should be an Indian citizen. 

3- Different Methods to Download e-PAN

The three different methods by which you can download the e-PAN are mentioned below: 

1. By visiting the official website of UTI Infrastructure Technology Services Limited (UTIITSL)              

2. By visiting the official website of Protean e-Gov Technologies Limited (NSDL) 

3. By visiting IT department website  

1.Download e-PAN on UTIITSL (Using Date of Birth and PAN Number) 

The procedure to download the e-PAN from the official website of UTIITSL is mentioned below: 

Step 1:Visit: https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/ePANCard 

Step 2: Next, enter details such as the PAN number, GSTIN number, date of birth, and captcha. 

Step 3: Click on 'Submit'. 

Step 4: On the next page, your mobile number and email will be displayed. Check if the details are correct and enter the captcha. 

Step 5: Enter the mode of One Time Password (OTP) and agree to the terms and conditions. 

Step 6: Click on 'Get OTP'. 

Step 7: On the next page, enter the OTP and make the payment. 

Step 8: Once the payment has been made, you will be able to download the e-PAN

2.Download e-PAN on NSDL Portal 

  1.Using PAN and Date of Birth 

The procedure that must be followed to download the e-PAN from the NSDL portal using the PAN is mentioned below:  

  1.    Visit : https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html 
  2.    Enter details such as the PAN, date of birth, Aadhaar number, and GSTIN. 
  3.    Select ‘Submit’ to complete the process .

2.Using Acknowledgement Number  

 The procedure that must be followed to download the e-PAN on the NSDL portal using the acknowledgement number is mentioned below: 

  1. Visit :https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html 
  2. Enter the acknowledgment number and captcha code. 
  3. Click on 'Submit'. 
  4. On the next page, your email ID and mobile number will be displayed. Check if the details are correct. 
  5. Select the mode of OTP and click on 'Generate OTP'. 
  6. On the next page, enter the OTP and click on 'Generate OTP'. 
  7. On the next page, you will be able to download a PDF copy of the e-PAN 

3.Download PAN Card through IT Department Website  

The following are the steps to download e-PAN card through IT department website:  

  1. Visit: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ 
  2. Select ‘Instant E-PAN'.(beta version)’  
  3. Select ‘Check Status/Download PAN’. 
  4. Enter the Aadhaar number. 
  5. Select ‘Continue’ 
  6. You can download the e-PAN on the next page. 

Check e-PAN Status  

The process that must be followed to check the status of the e-PAN is mentioned below: 

  1. Visit: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ 
  2. Select ‘Instant E-PAN'. 
  3. Select ‘Check Status/Download PAN’. 
  4. Enter the Aadhaar number. 
  5. Select ‘Continue’. 
  6. The e-PAN status will be displayed. 

Documents Required to Download e-PAN Card 

Given below are the documents you will require to download your PAN Card. They are: 

  1. Your updated Aadhaar Card. 
  2. Updated proof of address such as Aadhaar, utility bill, voter id, etc. 

E-PAN Card Download Form 

  1. You can download the Form 49A if you are an Indian citizen, and Form 49AA if you are a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) from the Protean eGov Technologies Limited website. 
  2. Take a print out and fill the form where all the details must be provided in capital letters.
  1. Ensure to leave one box blank after submitting one word on each box. 
  2. Field marked with asterisk (*) means that it is compulsory to provide the particular information. 
  3. Photograph sized 3.5cm x 2.5 cm is to be affixed in the box provided on the form. Make sure to only affix the photograph and not staple or clip it. 
  4. Assessing Officer (AO) code, AO number, and AO type are to be provided. 
  5. The impression of your left thumb must be provided within the box on the left side of the form. When signing, make sure your signature does not run across the photograph. 
  6. You will have to get your PAN Card application form attested by a Gazetted Officer or Magistrate under official stamp and seal in case you are providing the impression of your left thumb. 
  7. You will have to provide details of Representative Assessee in the Column 14 of the application form.

How to Update Information on PAN Card?  

Here are the steps to update PAN card information:  

  1. Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL portal  
  2. Click on ‘Update PAN’ option  
  3. Click on ‘Correction’ button  
  4. Update the required details  
  5. Provide the copy of address and identification proof to complete the process

  • Can I use the e-PAN as valid proof?

    Yes, the e-PAN can be used as valid proof. The details that are present on a regular PAN will be mentioned on the e-PAN as well. 

  • Will I need to pay a fee to apply for an e-PAN?

    No, you will not have to pay a fee to apply for an e-PAN. 

  • Should my Aadhaar Card be active to apply for an e-PAN?

    Yes, your Aadhaar Card must be active to apply for an e-PAN

  • Is there an expiry date of e-PAN card?

    No, there is no expiry of e-PAN. The digital version of PAN is valid for a lifetime and can be used for various financial and government activities.  

  • Is e-PAN equally valid as hard copy of PAN?

    Yes, e-PAN and physical form of PAN are equally valid for all types of banking and government activities such as filing income tax returns.  

  • How many times can we download e-PAN?

    E-PAN can be downloaded three times free of cost for the PAN applicants who submitted the applications within last 30 days as confirmed by Income Tax Department.  

  • How long does it take to receive e-PAN?

    It takes 15 to 20 days to issue the e-PAN and approximately 48 hours to obtain the e-PAN after completion of online application and verification of documents.  

  • Is e-PAN valid without signature?

    No, e-PAN is not valid without signature. The applicant must have an Aadhar card and digital signature to get e-PAN. 

  • I have not received the OTP, what should I do?

    In case you do not receive the OTP, the details can be submitted again to get another OTP. If you do receive the OTP again, you can contact UIDAI.
