The Background of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
For many decades, people below the poverty line has suffered for basic facilities in this country. Especially in rural India, people do not have access to basic things like clean water, safe cooking methods which includes LPG gas connection, or safe shelters. Unhealthy cooking methods caused a lot of health issues like respiratory problems and lung infection to people living in the rural parts of the country. Did you know that unclean cooking fuels are one of the popular reasons for death in India? To put an end to their misery and to give them access to safe and clean cooking methods like using an LPG cylinder, the Government of India came up with the the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2016. This scheme aimed in safeguarding the rural women who were using unhealthy cooking fuel. In addition to that, girls and women in villages has to walk miles to collect firewood. To safeguard the health of the women, the Government of India under this scheme started providing them with clean cooking fuel which is LPG gas connections. This scheme was launched in Uttar Pradesh and is now implemented across the country.
Introducing this scheme will likely bring the rural employment rate high as many people can sign up to be gas cylinder distributors. This scheme will also boost the sale to the gas companies as they now have a huge demand to cater to.
What is an Union Budget?

In the Union Budget 2018, the Parliament of India has decided to increase the free cooking gas scheme from 5 crore beneficiaries to 8 crore beneficiaries. This means that many people will now have access to clean cooking method.
The reason the Government of India decided to increase the beneficiaries under this scheme is to empower rural women, reduce the level of air pollution in the country by eliminating fossil fuel, reduce the serious health hazards associated to cooking fossil fuel, reduce the number of deaths in India caused by using fuel fuel for cooking, and to prevent children from walking far to fetch firewood, and reduce respiratory issues in children in rural India.
So, the next financial year is going to be good to people in rural India as 8 crore people will get LPG gas connections in their home, their living conditions will improve, and people will be healthy. LPG gas providers across the country now have high demand and will be required to supply them which will expand their business. The rural employed sector can now consider setting up a gas distribution agency.
