The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched and was widely accepted, with over 95.1 lakh connections being registered and distributed in 11 states so far. The Yojana was formulated to ensure that no rural or below-poverty-line (BPL) family or individual would have to resort to cooking over wood, charcoal, cow dung, or other unhealthy fuel sources.
Rural households in India have always had limited or no access to modern utilities like LPG, but that's changing now that a lot of private LPG connection holders who held more than one connection for the sake of convenience have surrendered the extra connections.
In addition, the government has made additional LPG cylinders and service infrastructure available. This has freed up a lot of LPG cylinders and equipment which can now be distributed among the rural poor.
In order to be eligible for the discounted or free LPG connections offered by the government, applicants must be:

Under Ujjwala 2.0, migrant workers are eligible to receive a free cooking gas connection based solely on a self-declaration, with no requirement for supporting documentation such as address proof. The goal of Ujjwala 2.0 is to offer low-income families who were not eligible for coverage under PMUY's first phase deposit-free LPG connections.
People who earn Rs. 10 lakh or more a year are ineligible for LPG subsidies under Ujjwala yojana scheme. This income could either be that person's own income or his or her spouse's income.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will now provide a subsidy of 200 rupees per gas cylinder (for up to 12 cylinders) to its more than 9 crore participants, resulting in a decrease in the program's cost, which is currently 803 rupees per 14.2 kg cylinder.
