LPG or Liquified Petroleum Gas is one of the most popularly used sources of fuel within the country. This is because of the number of advantages that LPG has. The Government of India in order to ensure that everyone in the country has access to LPG, provides subsidy to those who earn less than Rs. 10 lakhs taxable income annually. There are also efforts to ensure that this is done digitally and in a way to ensure that every deserving citizen receives the subsidy.
For a someone who does not have a connection as of yet, it is easy to procure this. Customers will only have to follow the steps provided below. Procuring a connection ensures that customers receive cylinders on time and for the normal rate unlike those sold in black markets.
Steps to Procure LPG Connection
- All customers who are above the age of 18 with the required documents can apply for the same.
- Customers must first locate the closest gas agency that supplies LPG cylinders in their area. There is one office in every area generally. The local phone directory will have the required information or locations can be looked online.
- Once they locate the area customers must then procure the application form for a new gas connection. This form must be filled completely and required documents must be provided.
- Once this is done, a receipt will be issued to customers along with the Registration number. Booking number will also be provided sometime later. These receipts must be maintained carefully.
Documents Required for Applying Gas Connection
For ID proof, any one of the documents provided below will be acceptable -
- PAN Card
- Driving License
- Aadhaar Number allotment letter
- Any other photo identification document that has been issued by the government.
For address proof, any one of the documents mentioned below will be acceptable -
- Ration Card
- Voter’s Identification Card
- Electricity bill from within the previous three months
- Telephone bill from within the previous three months
- Rent receipt
- Employer’s Certificate
Customers will also have to provide a security deposit to the agency while procuring the cylinder.
Safety Tips of LPG Cylinder
Once customers receive their cylinder, they will to ensure that it is stored and maintained properly. This is because LPG is combustible and although it is relatively safer than most options, it is important to maintain quality storage. Customers should ensure that valve is turned off at night and naked flame is not brought close to the cylinder. In case of leak, customers must turn the valve off and take the cylinder to an open location. Opening windows and doors to let in air will also be helpful.

Poor Get Gas Connection for Free
Free gas connections are going to be provided to more than 12 thousand poor families situated in Bhopal. This will be done under the PMUY (Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana). The distribution process of the gas connection is underway and more than 6,000 families have received their gas connections under Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana.
A meeting of DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) was held to discuss about this. The meeting was chaired by MP Alok Sanjar of Bhopal. Some of the other members of the meeting were Subhash Dwivedi (CEO of District Panchayat), Chavvi Bharadwaj (BMC Commissioner), Nishant Warwade (Collector), Vishnu Khatri (MLA) and Manmohan Nagar (Chairman of the District Panchayat).
In this particular meeting, all the different schemes that have been promoted by the Government were reviewed. The officers present in the meeting were asked by Sanjar to work towards enhancing the speed of various development works. The schemes must be executed perfectly to get better results. The officers must be in touch with the representatives who have been elected. Sanjar also mentioned that the development work has been good so far but there is room for improvement. According to the statement made by Nishant Warwade (Collector), electrification and renovation is already completed. Indexing, scanning, lamination and bar-coding of rights records, Khasra, hand registrations and release sheets are also done. All the data from the year 1959 till 2000 have been scanned and uploaded to the system. Duplicate record of all the citizens will be provided by the modern cyber room. Prime Minister Crop Insurance scheme’s last date has been extended till August 31, 2016.
The construction of all the 122 roads that were sanctioned by the Prime Minister for the development of rural areas will take place very soon. As per the census of 2001, villages that have a population of above 500 individuals are all connected by the bituminous roads. In the meeting, different road agencies and PWD were asked to fix the damages caused to roads due to rains.

Stalin Not For Aadhaar and LPG Subsidy Link
M.K. Stalin, Treasurer of DMK condemned the decision of the Oil Ministry to withhold LPG subsidy from those consumers who do not have Aadhaar cards. The believed that this news was ‘shocking’ as consumers have already paid the market price for the same and subsidy was being sent to the bank account of the consumer.
This decision of the Centre has been causing problems for many consumers. The Supreme Court has also mentioned that Aadhaar card was not mandatory and this decision by the Centre is a violation of this decision by the SC.
