On 2 November 2022, the National Bioenergy Programme was introduced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. The duration of the programme is from FY 2021-2022 to 2025-2026. The programme will be implemented in two phases.

CFA will be provided as reimbursement only once the construction has been successfully completed and project has been commissioned. The CFA will be deposited in the bank account of the beneficiary.
The subsidy that is provided for biogas plants for General Category States ranges between Rs.4,000 and Rs.8,000 per plant.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Mumbai and State Nodal Department are the different agencies that implement the Biogas Programme.
The subsidy that is provided for biogas plants for North Eastern Region States is Rs.14,700 per plant.
Training and technical support are provided by Biogas Development Training Centres for plants that are non-functional.
In India, around 4.31 million family type biogas plants have been setup so far.
