As per the Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, it is mandatory to submit Aadhaar number/Aadhaar Enrolment ID for the following:
- Applying for the allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN)
- Submitting Income Tax Returns
This is in effect from July 1, 2017.
With that in mind, the following procedure is to be followed to link Aadhaar to ITR:
- Visit the official Income Tax portal for e-filing at incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
- Under the ‘Quick Links’ section, select ‘Link Aadhaar’
- You will then be directed to the ‘Link Aadhaar’ page
- Over here, you need to fill in the following fields correctly:
- PAN
- Aadhaar Number
- Name, as per the Aadhaar card
- Captcha Code
- After you have entered the aforementioned details correctly, click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ link at the end of the page to complete the process.
Status of Aadhaar Link Request
After you have submitted the request to link your Aadhaar number to income tax returns, you can follow the following steps to check the status of the same:
- On the ‘Link Aadhaar’ page mentioned above, click on the ‘Click here’ link to view the status of your Aadhaar link request.
- You can check the status by entering the following details:
- PAN
- Aadhaar Number
- After entering these details, click on ‘View Aadhaar Link Status’
- You can now view the status of your Aadhaar link request.
