What is e-Aadhaar password?

The e-Aadhaar password is a combination of letters from your name and numbers from your date of birth. The password basically contains the first four letters of your name, followed by your year of birth.

After you receive the OTP to download the e-Aadhaar, the PDF of the e-Aadhaar can be downloaded. To be able to view this, there is a need for a password. This password is called the e-Aadhaar password.

How to open the e-Aadhaar PDF file?

After you download your e-Aadhaar, you will notice that the file is in PDF format. This PDF file is password protected to ensure security. Here is what you need to do to open the file:

Step 1:Double click on the file to open it.

Step 2: The file will display a small window which will ask for your password.

Enter the first 4 letters of your name in capitals (as mentioned in your Aadhaar Card) followed by the 4 digits of your year of birth (YYYY format).

The format will be as follows: ABCD####, wherein the #### refers to the digits.

Given below are examples of the e-Aadhaar password:

Example 1:

Name of the cardholder: ARUN KUMAR

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: ARUN1976

Example 2:

Name of the cardholder: ALI MONDAL

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: ALIM1976

Example 3:

Name of the cardholder: S.N. SHEKHARAN

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: S.N.1976

Example 4:

Name of the cardholder: RAJ

Year of Birth: 1976

Then e-Aadhaar password will be: RAJ1976

Why is e-Aadhaar password protected?

To offer privacy to card holders and prevent manipulation and misuse.

What is e-Aadhaar?

An e-Aadhaar is an electronic version of the physical Aadhaar that is digitally signed by the UIDAI as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The Act allows the legal recognition of electronically transmitted documents with a digital signature.

Key Features of e-Aadhaar card:

  • Valid document: The e-Aadhaar card that has been downloaded is recognised as a legally valid document. In fact, the electronic version should be treated on par with the printed version.
  • Accepted as ID proof: This type of Aadhaar card is accepted as proof of identity for any purpose.

To put it simply, an e-Aadhaar card is nothing but a digitised version of the 12-digit Aadhaar card. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) offers users the facility to download e-Aadhaar on its official website. The downloaded electronic card will have the same information that is printed on the physical card such as name, address, photo, gender, date of birth details, etc.
