CG Transport and Vehicle Registration Process in Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh Transport Department has been one of the first to use Information Technology in providing citizen-friendly transport services. In the past decade, it has computerised many transport related processes and has adopted mechanisms to make information available to citizens via Internet and SMS. CG is also the first state to implement Vahan and Sarathi across the state. There are a total of 27 RTOs in the state working towards delivering services related to issue of driving licenses, registration of vehicles, issue of vehicle fitness certificates, and more. Explained below are the process and documents required for vehicle registration under various circumstances.

Dealer Point Registration For A New Vehicle

Just like a two wheeler insurance or a car insurance, vehicle registration is also mandatory in India. The dealers are authorised to collect the necessary documents from the customers and complete the vehicle registration process. They can enroll the vehicle through the Online Dealer Point registration system, pay the necessary taxes and fees, and assign you a temporary vehicle registration number. Once the RTO verifies and approves your documents, they will send the RC Smart Card to your registered address via post. Below is the list of documents required for the purpose:

  • Duly-filled CMV Form 20 along with the imprint of engine number and chassis number
  • Sales certificate in CMV Form 21 issued by the dealer of the vehicle
  • Roadworthiness certificate in Form 22 provided by the vehicle manufacturer
  • Vehicle Insurance Certificate
  • Address proof of vehicle owner
  • Form 34 attested by the vehicle owner and the vehicle financer (in case of hypothecation)
  • Payment of applicable one-time road tax
  • Payment of applicable registration fee
  • Form 60 and 61, or Pan Card (as required)
  • Invoice from the manufacturer or dealer

CG Transport Validity And Effectiveness of Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)

  • A vehicle Registration Certificate is valid across India.
  • For private/non-transport vehicles, a Registration Certificate is valid for 15 years post which it must be renewed in an interval of five years.
  • For transport vehicles, a Registration Certificate remains valid only for a period of two years, post which, a vehicle fitness certificate must be obtained by the vehicle owner every year from the DTO/RTO/Registering Authority.

The claim process was average, the amount was not fully refunded. Also the process was lengthy. I have paid the premium of Rs.2000 for one year. It is a first party insurance. I felt the premium is quite high.
