Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric-enabled digital service facility that is offered to Central Government and State Government pensioners. There are many pensioners in our country. Post their retirement, to get their pension, a pensioner has to submit life certificates to the pension disbursing agencies like post offices and banks. This is an important requisite for pensioners to get their pension amount credited to their bank account.
To get a life certificate, a pensioner should physically be present in front of a Pension Disbursing Agency. Most of the pensioners, especially the aged and infirm ones found it extremely difficult to be physically present in the Pension Disbursing Agency post-retirement. Many pensioners also moved to a different location post-retirement and found it difficult to travel back to the home branch to get a life certificate. This was a hurdle for pensioners for many decades. To end this problem faced by pensioners in our country, the Government of India digilized the entire process and introduced the Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners Scheme called “Jeevan Pramaan”.
How does Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners Scheme or Jeevan Pramaan work?
As mentioned earlier, Jeevan Pramaan is a digital platform introduced by the Government of India to issue life certificates to pensioners online. Jeevan Pramaan uses the same biometric authentication that is uses in the Aadhaar system to authenticate pensioners across the country. Now, pensioners across India can get a life certificate by downloading the PC/Mobile/Tablet application. Simultaneously, pensioners can also visit the nearest Jeevan Pramaan authorised Centre which is being operated by leading banks, Citizen Service Centre (CSCs), and government offices and start the registration process. The pensioners will be asked to furnish details like Aadhaar number, bank account number, pension payment order, and a registered phone number.
All these details will be verified and pensioners will be asked to provide biometrics like fingerprint or Iris. After successful authentication, Jeevan Pramaan Certificate ID will be sent to the registered phone number through an SMS. The life certificates once issued will be saved in the Life Certificate Repository which can be accessed by both the pensioners and the Pension Disbursing Agency at any time from anywhere.
Once a life certificate is issued, the pensioner can download a PDF copy of the certificate from the official Jeevan Pramaan official website by entering the Jeevan Pramaan ID or their Aadhaar number.
