How to get Fancy number for Two Wheeler in Odisha

Fancy vehicle numbers are the latest fad amongst young motorcycle buyers. With rising living standards in Odisha, people in the state have a great demand for cruisers and mid to premium range motorcycles due to their increased interest in adventure and travel. Fancy vehicle numbers make the motorcycles look unique and tell a lot about the persona of the rider. Some fancy numbers like 007 (James Bond), 786 (Islamic number), 8055 (Reads ‘BOSS’), 1111, 0001, 3333, 7777, 6666, 9999, and others are in great demand as they carry a certain appeal. However, getting a VIP registration number for your bike may not be as easy as it used to be a few years ago. For certain numbers, there exists a huge demand. And this is why these are allotted by way of auction. In Odisha, a list of fancy numbers are kept aside by the state government which are allocated through online mechanisms.

Components of A Vehicle Registration Number

A vehicle RC, bike insurance certificate, and a PUC certificate are some of the most important documents that a vehicle should have. A vehicle number plate provides important details about the vehicle. It has four main components. A vehicle number begins with a two-letter code which is assigned to the state where the vehicle belongs to. For example, the state code for Odisha is OD. The next component of the vehicle number plate is the two-digit code which represents the RTO where a particular vehicle is registered. Below mentioned is the list of RTOs in Odisha with their RTO codes.

OD RTO Code OD Place Name OD RTO Code OD Place Name
OD 01/OR 01 Balasore OD 19/OR 19 Angul
OD 02/OR 02 Bhubaneswar OD 20/OR 20 Gajapati
OD 03/OR 03 Bolangir OD 21/OR 21 Jagatsinghpur

OD 16/OR 16 Sundergarh OD 34 Jajpur
OD 17/OR 17 Baragarh OD 35 Talcher
OD 18/OR 18 Rayagada

The third and most significant component of a vehicle registration number is the four-digit registration number assigned to the vehicle by the concerned registering authority. These registration numbers always fall in the range of 0001 to 9999. Once all the numbers from this range are allocated to vehicles, the same range is used again by placing two more letters before the registration number.

Fancy Number Registration Process In Odisha

Fancy numbers are categorised into two categories in Odisha as per the provisions of rule 14 of the Odisha Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993. The same are as follows:

  1. Notified fancy registration Numbers: These numbers are allocated to applicants online with the payment of fee as prescribed under rule 14 (3) of the OMV Rules.
  2. Other Than Notified Fancy Numbers: These registration numbers are assigned to the vehicles purely on a first-come-first-serve basis. These numbers can also be booked online through a payment of Rs.5,000 (for two-wheelers). The number reserved however should be within the range of next 10,000 numbers in the series.

Participating In The Online Auction

Those who wish to participate in the online auction must register their names for the same. After the bid registration, the applicant will be assigned a unique User ID and password. The same will have to be used by the bidder till the whole process is completed. To register yourself for the auction, you can open the official Odisha Transport website and click on Booking/Reservation of Registration Number under Online Services Tab. You will be redirected to the Parivahan website of the Government of India where you can complete the registration process and bid for your preferred number.

Here is the step by step guide to register yourself and bid for your favourite registration number:

  1. On the Parivahan Auction website, click on Public Login to enter into the page.
  2. If you are not registered, click on ‘New User’ or Create a User Id. Enter the required details. Your User ID and password will be sent to you via SMS and email.
  3. With your User ID and password, you can log in to the system and choose between Fancy Number Registration and Other Than Notified Numbers.
  4. After clicking on the ‘Proceed To’ tab, a user can select ‘Number Selection Menu’ from the top and choose their desired number.
  5. Select the RTO, vehicle type, and select the checkbox corresponding to your desired fancy number.
  6. Fill up your address and other details and make the payment through various online banking options available.

Transfer of Reserved Registration Number

Any vehicle registration reserved online is not transferable to any other person. The name of the person in whose name a registration number is reserved must be the same as the one in whose name a vehicle is registered.

Minimum Reservation Price

The applicant must deposit a minimum reservation fee to participate in the auction. This reservation fee is refundable for those applicants who fail to get their preferred number in the auction.

Bidding Process

The applicant can have a look at the bidding amount of all the bidders and can bid for a higher amount till the last date of the auction. Every increase in the bid should be in multiples of one thousand. After the auction ends, the result will be displayed in the website and the winners would be intimated about the same via email and SMS.

The winner of the bid must deposit the balance amount online within a stipulated time-frame. If the bidder fails to deposit the money before the prescribed deadline, the number reserved in his name will be cancelled and will be treated as unallotted. The reservation fee deposited by the bidder will also be forfeited.

After the payment of the remaining registration payment, the applicant must get their vehicle registered within 30 days from the date of fancy number reservation. Failing to do so will lead to forfeiture of the allocated number.
