Eligibility for Debit Card Insurance Coverage on HDFC Bank Classic Salary Account:

To be eligible for the Personal Accidental Death Cover and the Air Accidental Death Cover that comes with the debit card on opening the account, customers need to meet certain criteria.

Eligibility for Air Accidental Death Cover:

  1. The demised account holder should have held the HDFC Bank Classic Salary Account. He/she should have received the salary in the same month of death or the month prior to the occurrence of untimely death.
  1. To be eligible for this insurance coverage, death should have occurred as a result of bodily injury.
  1. The death of the account holder should have occurred within a year from the event (accident). The HDFC Bank Classic Salary account holder should have been less than 70 years of age at the time of death to be eligible for this account.
  1. He/she should have made at least one transaction or purchase 6 months prior to death.
  1. Should have purchased the air ticket using the HDFC Bank debit card.
  1. This insurance coverage is only limited to the primary account holder and not his/her nominee[s] or dependents.

Eligibility for Personal Accidental Death Cover

  1. As per the insurance guidelines, to be eligible for the coverage, death should have occurred within a year (12 months) from the event.
  1. The customer should have been less than 70 years of age on the day of untimely death.
  1. Should have held the HDFC Bank Classic Salary Account and should have received the salary in the month of death or the month prior to the occurrence of death.
  1. He/she should have made at least one transaction or purchase using the HDFC Bank debit card 6 months prior to the occurrence of death.
  1. Death should have occurred as a result of bodily injury.
  1. This insurance cover is limited to the primary account holder and not his/her dependents or nominee[s].
  1. The primary account holder should have purchased the air ticket using the HDFC Bank debit card to be eligible to claim the Personal Accidental Death coverage.

FAQs on HDFC Bank Classic Salary Account

  • Is it possible to make this salary account a joint account?

    Yes, it is possible. For that to happen, the secondary account holder (who you will be sharing the account with) will have to submit his/her KYC documents for identification and address proof.

  • Is it possible to remove a nominee? I just got divorced and my ex was my nominee.

    Yes, you can fill in an application and submit it at the nearest HDFC Bank branch or you can do it via your netbanking account.

  • Do I have to open a new account if I change employers?

    No, you can continue with the same account provided you submit a letter from your new employer stating your name, designation in the company, account number and a statement (in the letter) proving that you are indeed an employee of the company. Once this is submitted, you will receive your monthly payroll in the same account.

  • Will my company ID be enough as proof of identification?

    No, it will not. You will need to submit Government approved identification and address proof when applying to open the account.

  • I already have a zero-balance account with HDFC Bank, can I open this zero-balance salary account as well?

    No, you can have only one zero-balance account with one bank at a time. Hence, will not be possible.
