    1. I had applied for passport six months ago. However, the police verification has not been done yet. Can I apply again in the new system or should I wait?

      The RPO or Regional Passport Office has started a drive for pendency clearance. You must wait for 4 weeks. Visit the passport office in case you do not receive it after 4 weeks.

    5. Is police verification necessary if I apply for the passport for my baby who is just a year old?

      No police verification is needed if any one parent has a passport that is valid along with the spouse’s name on it. The minor will get the passport issued to his/her name instantly.

      The minor can get his/her passport issued under the Tatkaal scheme provided it gets approved by the competent authority.

      • The following documents are required in this particular case:
      • Date of birth proof.
      • Current address proof.
      • Annexure G must be signed by a guardian.
      • Guardian’s passport (photocopy).
    8. I am 65 years old and I wish to travel overseas to visit by kids. What are the documents that I must submit for escaping police verification?

      Police verification is absolutely required for issuance of passport. However, if you can submit the photocopy of the passport of your child, who must be above the age of 18 years and staying overseas, as an additional document with the passport application, then you might get a passport that is issued on the basis of post police verification.

    9. Is police verification process carried out for Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees?

      Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees can get their passports issued without going through the police verification process. They must submit their original ID certificate according to Annexure B as additional document along with the main application form. If NOC or No Objection Certificate is submitted, the passport can be issued on the basis of post police verification (according to Annexure M). If PI or Prior Information letter is submitted, then the passport can be issued on the basis of pre police verification (according to Annexure N).

    10. Is there no PV (Police Verification) needed in case the Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees wish to change their name on the passport? If yes, what are the documents needed?
      • Fresh issuance of passport – Pre police verification is carried out in case of Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees wish to change their names on their passports. If Tatkaal documents are submitted then post police verification is carried out.
      • Reissuance of passport – In case the old passport has exempted or clear police verification and all the documents required are submitted, then there will be no police verification.     11. I am one of the active members of FICCI. What are the documents that I must provide for escaping police verification process?

      A passport can never be issued without the police verification process in this case. However, if you provide the Standard Affidavit according to Annexure I or the Verification Certificate according to Annexure J, then you can avail the passport on the basis of post police verification. Also, if you choose to apply under the Tatkaal scheme, then you can avail the passport on the basis of post police verification.

    12. I am a student staying in Delhi and I belong to Punjab. If I apply for a passport will the PV happen at my permanent address?

      No matter where you stay at present, police verification will be done at both the addresses mentioned by you. So, it will happen at the Delhi address and it will also happen at your residential address in Punjab.

    13. I used to be a Government official but now I have retired. Can I avail a passport without going through the police verification process?

      Passport cannot be obtained without police verification. However, if the application is made under the Tatkaal scheme or the Pension Payment Order document is attached with the passport application then the passport issuance can take place on the basis of post police verification. This suggests that the police verification will happen after the passport has been issued.

    14. I reside in Nagaland. Can I avail a passport without going through the police verification process?

      No. Police verification will be done before issuing the passport.

    17. If my father is an I.A.S officer, will the police verification process be carried out in my case? If yes, is it possible to avoid delay in the issuance of passport due to the verification process?
      • All the dependant family members of Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees can avail a passport without going through police verification, if the following documents are attach along with the application:
      • Identity Certificate according to Annexure B.
      • Standard Affidavit according to Annexure I.
    18. I have changed by name to Ganpatrao Apte from Baburao Apte. Can this be a problem during the police verification process?

    19. There is a court case that is pending against me. After the police verification is successful, can I avail my passport?

      In case there is a criminal case that is pending against you in the court, you can only avail a passport if the court gives you a written permission to travel overseas. Under certain conditions, a passport with short validity (mostly 1 year) can be availed.

    20. The court had convicted me last year. After the police verification is successful, can I avail my passport?

      Yes, you can avail a passport after being convicted. However, the competent authority must a llow you to avail a passport.

    21. I am a citizen of India and I wish to apply for a passport. However, I have been repatriated from Bangladesh. Can I avail a passport without going through the police verification?

      No, passport will only be issued after the police verification process is carried out.

    22. If it says ‘police verification incomplete’ on the website in my case, what does it mean?

      The common problems that cause this are as follows:

      • The police report states that you have been staying at the present address for less than one year. For passport issuance, it is of utmost importance that you get clearance from all the previous address that you have stayed at for the past year.
      • Some of the columns might not have been filled up by the police department. In this case, the application will the sent to police department for completion. If you wish to get a quick resolution, follow up with the police department.
      • Police report might state that proper documents have not been produced regarding your present address. The Regional Passport Office will write to you in such a situation.
    23. According to the file status, my report says ‘adverse’. What should I do now?

      The common problems that cause this are as follows:

      As per the police report, you were unavailable for the verification process or it was not proved that you reside at the address you mentioned on the application form.

      The police department found out that there are pending or unresolved criminal cases against you.

    24. Does PV happen before passport issuance under the Tatkaal scheme?

      No. The police verification does not take place before passport issuance under the Tatkaal scheme. Post police verification basis or No police verification basis is followed in case of passport applications under Tatkaal scheme.

    25. Can I avail a passport without the police verification?

      The Passport Office takes a call on the need of police verification depending on whether the application is for a fresh passport or reissue of passport. Public Sector/Government/Statutory body employees can get their passports issued without going through the police verification process.       Yes, the police verification process will be conducted at all the three addresses that you have stayed at for the past one year.
