How to Apply for a Passport in Ahmedabad

• Fill in the online form and submit it, making sure all the information entered is correct.

• On submission, click on 'View' and then select the 'Pay and Schedule Appointment' button.

• Make the online payment (through SBI challan/internet banking or credit card/debit card) and schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra/Regional Passport Office.

• Click on the 'Print Application Receipt' link after completing the above procedure to print the receipt if you wish, although carrying a printout is no longer required because an SMS with your appointment details is also accepted.

• On the allotted day, visit the Passport Seva Kendra/Regional Passport Office with all relevant documents in original along with self-attested photocopies.

• On verification and processing of the application, the applicant will be notified and the passport will be sent by Speed Post to the present address given in the application.

You must pay the applicable fee online before an appointment can be booked at any Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). Passport application fees were revised with effect from 1 July 2026, so check the revised fee on the Passport Seva portal before making payment. 

While booking the appointment, you can select the appointment quota (Normal or Tatkaal) and your preferred PSK or POPSK. The Tatkaal quota is available only to Tatkaal applicants, who must pay the entire fee applicable under the Tatkaal category while making the online payment. 

You can reschedule or cancel a confirmed appointment using the 'Schedule/Reschedule Appointment' link on the Passport Seva portal, but the number of reschedules is limited and a Tatkaal appointment can be rescheduled only once. If you do not visit the PSK within 90 days of submitting the online form, you must resubmit the application form. 

You can apply at any PSK or Regional Passport Office (RPO) across India, so you can choose a Passport Seva Kendra in Ahmedabad even if you live in another city. In that case, create a new login ID on the Passport Seva portal using the same email ID, and select the Ahmedabad Passport Office while applying. 

Every applicant, including infants, must be physically present at the PSK to give biometrics and photographs. Minor applicants below four years of age must carry a recent passport-size photograph (4.5cm x 3.5cm) with a white background. 

How to Apply for a Passport Offline in Ahmedabad

A PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) is a specially designated centre for processing passport applications. These centres process both offline as well as online applications. Applicants who have applied online have to submit their documents to a PSK after making an appointment through the Passport Seva website.

The PSK can also be used to submit offline passport applications without an appointment in certain cases, as outlined below:

• Only emergency/medical cases and pre-approved categories may visit a PSK without an appointment, and service is provided at the discretion of the PSK in-charge or Passport Officer.

• All other applications can be submitted only after making an appointment at the PSK.

The process to apply for a passport at a PSK is mentioned below:

• Buy a form from the PSK or a passport office or download one from the Passport Seva website.

• Make an appointment and submit the filled in form and documents on the appointed day.

• Pay the fee online before the appointment is booked. A file number will be issued, which can be used to track the application status through the Passport Seva website.

• Once the application has been processed and approved, the applicant will be notified and the passport will be sent by Speed Post to the applicant's present address.

As a rule, passport applications cannot be made at a Regional Passport Office (RPO) unless the application is one of the application types that are processed at the RPO. In the case of such applications, the process to be followed is the same as an application to the PSK.

Certain applications are not accepted at POPSKs, including those with a change in personal particulars such as name, date of birth or place of birth (except address and minor name changes), Non-ECR requests based on Income Tax documents, Emergency Certificate cases, single-parent cases, pending court cases, out-of-jurisdiction applications, citizenship issues, valid lost passports and badly damaged passports.
