Registration of Vehicles in Jharkhand

All vehicles that are bought in Jharkhand have to be registered within 15 days of the vehicle being delivered. The temporary Registration Certificate (RC) that is issued by vehicle dealers on purchase of a vehicle is only valid for a month. Before the validity of the temporary registration card expires, the permanent RC has to be applied for. This is valid for 15 years.

The RC is a Smart Card containing the following information:

  3. Chassis number
  4. Vehicle model
  5. Vehicle colour

The registration number will be issued within 10 working days with the card being sent to the applicant's registered mailing address.

Documents Required for Vehicle Registration in Jharkhand

To obtain vehicle registration in Jharkhand, an application form along with the fees and the required documents have to be submitted to the RTO. The registration number will be issued only after the vehicle has been inspected by the RTO Jharkhand's Registering Authority. The following documents are required:

If your RC has been lost or damaged, a duplicate one can be obtained by submitting an application orm along with the required fees fat the RTO where the RC was issued. The following documents are required for this procedure:

  1. Form 26 or application form for issuing duplicate RC
  2. Attested copy of valid vehicle insurance document
  3. Attested copy of proof of address of the owner
  4. Attested copy of Pollution under Control certificate
  5. In case of theft of the RC, original FIR copy

How to Update A New Address in RC in Jharkhand and Documents Required

If the RC has to be updated with a new address, an application form for the same has to be submitted to the RTO along with the required fees and the following documents:

  • Original copy of the registration certificate

How to Re-Register Vehicles bought from other states

When a registered vehicle is brought in from another state, re-registration of the vehicle has to be done in Jharkhand. Before this, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has to be obtained from the RTO Office where the vehicle was registered. To do the re-registration, an application form has to be submitted along with the fees and the following documents:

  4. Form 28 (duplicate of NOC)

    Attested copies of certain documents are required for RC application in Jharkhand. This means to get the original document photocopied and then attested by an official such as an MLA, notary public, gazetted officer, or nigam parishad.

  • If I am transferring ownership of my vehicle in Jharkhand, should that also be registered at the RTO?
