FASTag Exemption List – Exempted FASTag Online Process

The FASTag has been introduced by the government to ease the toll-collection process and avoid long queues at the toll-plaza. The tag uses radio frequency technology to enable vehicles for making toll-payment directly from the prepaid account without stopping at the toll-plaza.

However, there are certain special category vehicles that are exempted from paying tolls. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has issued a directive mentioning all the exempted vehicles.

Foreign Dignitary on State Visit
An awardee of Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakra
Used For Official Purpose:
Ministry of Defense including those eligible under the Indian Toll (Army and Air Force) Act, 1901
Central and State Armed Forces in Uniform, Paramilitary Forces and Police
Executive Magistrate
Emergency/Utility Vehicles:
Fire-Fighting Department or Organisation
Funeral Van
NHAI/ Government Organisation utilising vehicles for the purpose of inspection, construction or operational or maintenance of national highways and survey.
Mechanical Vehicles Designed for use by persons suffering from physical disability

FASTag for exempted vehicles

The special category vehicles that are exempted from paying tolls will have to use a different FASTag. This is done to avoid stopping at the toll-plaza. According to the National Highway Fee Rule 2008 and subsequent amendments, the FASTag for exempted vehicles category will be issued free of cost.

  • Step 1: Register on the web portal of Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).
  • Step 2: After completing registration, check for User ID and Password in registered email address.
  • Step 3: Select ‘Upload the form’.
  • Step 4: Choose exempted category from the given list.
  • Step 5: Choose the concerned NHAI Regional Office (RO) to submit the application.
  • Step 6: Fill the required details like name, mobile number and email address.
  • Step 7: Fill the registration number of the exempted vehicle.
  • Step 8: Upload the required documents.
  • Step 9: Submit the application.

Save the Application ID received on registered email address.
