• Form 20 for Motor Vehicle Registration

    If you own a motor vehicle then it is mandatory for you to get it registered. You can do this by either downloading the Form 20 online or visiting the nearest Regional Transport Office (RTO) to get the application form.

    You will have to fill the form and submit it with all the relevant documents at the nearest RTO.

    Steps to Fill the Form 20

    Given below are the steps you can follow to fill the Form 20 and get your vehicle registered:

    • You can either visit the nearest RTO and get the Form 20 or download it online by clicking on the link https://vahan.nic.in/nrservices/forms/form20.pdf. You can get a print out of the application form and fill it and submit it at the nearest RTO along with all the relevant documents.
    • Once you have submitted the documents, the RTO will verify them and if every detail is correct, your vehicle will be registered. Once done, you will receive the confirmation for the same.

    Details to be Filled in the Form 20

    While filling in the Form 20 there are certain details you will have to fill in. They are mentioned below:

    • Age
    • Permanent Address
    • Temporary Address
    • Duration of the time spent at your current address
    • PAN number. This information is optional
    • Birth place
    • If you were born outside India then mention the place
    • Name and address of the dealer from whom you purchased the vehicle. You will have to enclose the sale certificate and road worthiness certificate
    • Approval of design by State Transport Authority if the vehicle is imported or is an ex-army vehicle

    • Type of vehicle – new vehicle, imported vehicle, etc.

    1. What documents should I provide while filling in my Form 20?

      You will have to provide proof of identity and address, Form 20, proof of citizenship, PAN Card, road worthiness certificate, sales certificate, custom clearance certificate if the vehicle is imported, temporary registration certificate, invoice from the dealer, and the certificate of insurance.

    2. For how long will my registration certificate remain valid?

      The registration certificate will remain valid for 15 years.
