State Bank of India (SBI) offers zero balance savings accounts, making banking accessible to all. These accounts come with no minimum balance requirement, making them ideal for students, low-income individuals, and those who want different banking solutions.

SBI provides multiple zero-balance account options, including Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA) and Jan Dhan Yojana Account, each with unique features. 

What is an SBI Zero Balance Account? 

A zero-balance account with SBI is simple and easy to use. Users who open this kind of account are not required to keep a minimum balance. Customers are free to deposit any amount that suits them. Also, there is no limitation on the upper limit. You can use this account with zero balance, unlike other savings accounts.  

Eligibility Criteria for Zero Balance Account in SBI 

In order to be eligible for an SBI zero-balance account, you need to meet the following requirements:  

  1. Only individual applicants are eligible 
  1. People can open their account individually or jointly 
  1. The applicant's mobile number must be active 
  1. Candidates must be at least 18 years old 
  1. Candidates must have updated KYC documentation 
  1. To open a minor savings account, a minor must be above 10 years old.  

Documents Required for a Zero Balance Account in SBI 

Here are the required documents for opening a zero-balance account: 

  1. Address Proof such as Aadhaar Card, passport, Voter ID, ration card, bank statement, etc. 
  1. Identity Proof such as passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, etc. 
  1. One passport-size photograph. 

How to Open a Zero Balance Account in SBI? 

To open a zero-balance account in SBI, you can apply for both online and offline: 

Online Process 

  1. Install the SBI YONO app 
  1. Click to open Savings Account 
  1. Select "Apply Now" and then click "Next" 
  1. If you have an Aadhaar card, then select open with Aadhaar using e-KYC option 
  1. If you don’t have an Aadhaar card, then select open with Officially Valid Document (OVD) option 
  1. Enter your mobile number and enter the OTP received on your mobile number 
  1. Enter your personal details such as income, educational details and submit it 
  1. To finish the verification process, go to the nearest SBI bank branch 
  1. Once the verification process is done, the officials will open the account. 

Offline Process 

  1. Visit your nearest SBI branch to open a zero-balance account 
  1. Request an account opening form and complete it with the required information 
  1. Check the information you have entered and attach the required documents 
  1. Submit the necessary documents to the SBI officials 
  1. After completing the verification process, the officials will open the account and verify the form. 

Rules for SBI Zero Balance Accounts 

These rules must be followed by SBI account holders who have a zero-balance account with the bank: 

  1. After opening a zero-balance account with SBI, account holders are not permitted to have any other savings bank accounts. 
  1. Within 30 days of opening the zero-balance account, the customer's existing savings bank account will be closed. 
  1. Users with SBI accounts are eligible to withdraw cash 4 times per month. This includes cash withdrawals at the branch as well as withdrawals from its ATM and those of other banks.  

SBI Daily Withdrawal Limit for Zero Balance Accounts  

There is no daily withdrawal limit on an SBI account with zero balance. Only 4 times cash withdrawals are permitted per month for zero balance account holders. 

Maximum Limit for SBI Zero Balance Accounts  

There is no maximum balance limit for customers who open a zero-balance account with SBI. The Basic Savings Bank Deposit Small Account (BSBDA) has a balance limit of Rs.50,000, whereas the Savings Account for Minors has a maximum amount of Rs.10 lakhs. 

UPI Transaction Limit for SBI Zero Balance Account  

  1. SBI's zero-balance accounts have the same Rs.1 lakh UPI transaction limit as regular savings accounts. For UPI transactions, SBI customers are not permitted to go beyond this limit. 
  1. With SBI, opening a zero-balance account is simple and reasonably priced. Access to this account is simple and requires a little documentation. Users are free to select the process that meets their needs, whether it be online or offline.
