The HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account is a zero balance savings account that comes with the benefit of a free Personal Accidental Death cover upto Rs.5 lakh and an Air Accidental Cover upto Rs.25 Lakh.

Features and Benefits of HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account:

  1. For the HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account, there is no requirement for a minimum balance as a it is a zero balance account.
  2. All account holders are eligible for the free Personal Accident Cover of Rs.5 lakh.

Eligibility for Insurance Coverage under HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account:

For customers to be eligible for the Free Personal Accidental Death Cover and the Free Air Accidental Death Cover that comes with the HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account, customers need to meet certain criteria.

  1. Eligibility for Air Accidental Death Cover:
    1. To be eligible, the customer should hold the HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account and should have received the salary in the month of death or the month prior to the occurrence of death.
    2. The cause of death should be a result of bodily injury.
    3. Death should have occurred within a year from the event.
    4. The account holder should have been less than 70 years of age at the time of death.
    5. The demised customer should have made at least one transaction or purchase 6 months prior to the occurrence of death.
    6. The air ticket should have been purchased using the HDFC Bank debit card.
    7. This insurance cover is only limited to the primary account holder and not his/her nominee[s].
  1. Eligibility for Personal Accidental Death Cover
    1. On the day of death, the customer should have been less than 70 years of age.
    2. Death should have occurred within 12 months from the event.
    3. Should have held the HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account and should have received the salary in the month of death or the month prior to the occurrence of death.
    4. The account holder should have made at least one transaction or purchase within 6 months prior to the occurrence.
    5. Death should have occurred as a result of bodily injury.
    6. The Personal Accidental Death Cover is limited to the primary account holder and not his/her nominee[s].
    7. In case of death resulting from an air accident, the primary account holder should have purchased the air ticket using the HDFC Bank debit card.

FAQs on HDFC Bank Defence Salary Account

  • Do I have to open another salary account if I change employers?

    No, that would not be required. All you need to do is take a letter from your employer to your local HDFC Bank. The letter from your employer should contain your name, account number, date of joining and basically a confirmation that you are now a member of the organisation.

  • Can I open this account if I am unemployed or retired?

    No, that would not be possible. You will have to employed and receive a salary every month to to be eligible and avail the facilities of this salary account.

  • What documents should I submit when applying for this account? Is my Defence ID enough?

    Yes, your Defence ID will be enough as proof of identification. You can also submit your regular Government approved KYC documents if need be.

  • Is it possible to change my address as I am shifting? What is the process and how long will it take?

    You can change your address via your net banking account or at your local HDFC Bank branch. You will need to submit a government approved document stating clearly your new address. Once you have submitted your new address, it will take 7 days to be updated.

  • I need to stop a cheque payment. How can I do it?

    While you can do this at any HDFC Bank branch, it is most convenient to do it through your net banking account. You can do this by following the steps mentioned below.

    1. Firstly, login to your NetBanking account
    2. Next, click on the "Request" menu on the left hand side of the web page
    3. Now, click on the "Stop Payment of Cheque" option available
    4. Select the Account Number - incase you have more than one account
    5. Enter first/Start cheque number to the last/End cheque number, and state a reason for stopping the payment
    6. Click on "Continue"
    7. Click on "Confirm" tab to confirm the stop payment request after verifying the request
