The bank was established to provide financial support to the local weaver community facing financial difficulties. It became renamed as the Syndicate Bank in 1964 and was nationalised in 1969. The bank began modestly and has now grown to a nationwide network of 3552 branches. The bank also has a large ATM network that serves every area in India.

Opening a Syndicate Bank Savings Account

  1. Savings Accounts can be opened both online and offline.
  1. Online account opening is a three-step process.
  1. Service is available to Indian residents above 18 years of age.
  1. You need to apply online and fill out the account opening form.
  1. Form requires email address, mobile number, and KYC documents.
  1. After applying online, you must visit the bank and submit the necessary paperwork in person.
  1. The bank will validate the documents, and you'll be informed once your account is live.

Types of Syndicate Bank Savings Accounts

1. SyndSamanya Savings Account: This is a zero-balance account that allows customers to enjoy the benefits of a savings account without having to keep a large amount. Holders of this completely KYC compliant account will be able to enjoy free local cheque collecting. They will also be eligible for a cheque book if they maintain the minimum balance required by the bank.

2. Premium Savings Account: With a Syndicate Bank Premium Savings Account, you can enjoy additional benefits and privileges. This account, which is available at branches with e-banking, allows holders to sweep in and sweep out surplus balances, converting them to fixed deposits. Holders will be allowed to liquidate this deposit for free. The excess balance will be transferred in multiples of Rs. 1,000 to a 180-day fixed deposit. They will also earn interest at the current interest rate. 

3. Special Premium Savings Account: With the Special Premium Savings Account, holders can avail the benefits of a savings account and the high interest rate of a fixed deposit. Account balance in excess of Rs. 20, 000 will be swept into a fixed deposit with a 1 year and 1 day term. Holders will receive attractive rates if interest on the amount and will also be able to break the deposit if they are I urgent need of funds without paying a penalty charge.

Eligibility Criteria

The following individuals/entities can apply for a Syndicate Bank Savings Account:

  1. Hindu Undivided Families
  2. Individuals above the age of 18.
  3. Trusts, associations, clubs.
  4. Minors (joint account with a parent/ guardian). Minors will be able to operate the account on attaining maturity.

Note: The account can be held singly or they can be joint accounts. In case of minors, accounts have to be held jointly with a parent/guardian.

Documents Required to Open a Syndicate Bank Savings Account

The documentation required for creating a Syndicate Bank Savings Account is outlined in the Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines. The Reserve Bank of India implemented these guidelines to streamline the document gathering process and make it easier for banks to verify the information provided by account holders. The documents to be supplied are listed below.

  2. Proof of identity
  3. Proof of address/residence

Proof of Identity Documents

The documents that can be submitted to satisfy the proof of identity requirement are as follows:

  6. Permanent Account Number (PAN) card
  7. Voter's ID card
  8. NREGA card

The documents that can be submitted to satisfy the proof of address requirements are as follows:

  1. Valid passport
  2. Utility bills such as electricity bill, telephone bill
  3. Bank account statement
  4. Driving license
  5. Aadhaar card
  6. Income Tax Statement
  7. Credit card statement
  8. Salary slip

Note

  1. In the case of joint accounts, all applicants must furnish the KYC documents.
  2. In the case of accounts opened in the name of a minor, proof of age such as a birth certificate has to be provided along with the above KYC documents.

GST of 18% is applicable on all banking products and services from July 1, 2017 onwards.

    It depends on the sort of account you select. The SyndSamanya Savings Bank account requires a minimum monthly account balance of 0. The SyndSupreme Savings Bank account's minimum monthly balance is Rs. 1 lakh. 

  • Is it sufficient for one person to furnish KYC documents while opening a savings bank account simultaneously with another?

    No. In the event of joint accounts, all applicants must provide the required KYC papers. 

  • Can minors open a savings account at Syndicate Bank?

    Syndicate Bank does not offer a separate savings bank account for minors. Minors, on the other hand, can run the account with their parents.
