How to Link Your Aadhaar Card with Your HDFC Bank Savings Account

As per the amended Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) rules of the government, it is mandatory for all bank account holders to link their bank accounts with Aadhaar before 31st December, 2017. Failing to do so before the due date may lead to blocking of the accounts. The RBI has also recently clarified that it is compulsory for everyone to link their Aadhaar card with their bank accounts.

Aadhaar seeding may have multiple benefits. It would enable government to directly transfer certain benefits and subsidies to eligible citizens. LPG subsidy, pensions, scholarships, welfare funds, MNREGA wages and other financial benefits could be directly transferred to eligible people and the corruption that exists in the traditional hand to hand benefits transfer mechanisms can be reduced. Also, it would allow bank account holders to use Aadhaar based payment mechanisms.

You may link your Aadhaar card with your bank account through HDFC net banking or by visiting your nearest HDFC Bank branch.

Online Aadhaar Seeding:

If you have already activated your HDFC netbanking account, you may update your Aadhaar card details in a few easy steps mentioned below:

  • Login to HDFC Net Banking.
  • Click ‘View /Update ‘Aadhaar Details’ under Accounts tab request section.
  • Enter your Aadhaar card details and confirm your Account Number to which you want your Aadhaar to be linked with.

The Aadhaar details should ideally be updated with the bank account within 4 working days. You may login to your net banking account to check the status of your application after 4 days. Also, you may receive email or SMS notification from the bank confirming the Aadhaar seeding.

Aadhaar Seeding At HDFC Bank Branch:

If you do not have access to HDFC Internet banking you may visit your nearest HDFC Bank branch and get the Aadhaar linking done. The Aadhaar seeding application can be downloaded online or can be directly obtained from the branch office.

The Aadhaar seeding application form has to be filled in with all the required details such as the account number, Aadhaar number, residential address and others, and submitted to the bank along with a photocopy of your Aadhaar card. You must also carry your original Aadhaar card to the bank as the bank executive might view it for verification purpose.

After the bank verifies all your details, your request will be processed and you will receive an SMS or email update confirming the status of your application.
