    Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account is a savings account launched by the Prime Minister of India for the girl child of the country. The scheme was launched to ensure that parents and legal guardians get the chance to secure their girl child’s future. It is a savings scheme that can be opened for any girl child below the age of 10 years. The parent or legal guardian can invest in the account for 14 years from the date of the opening of the account. The account gives amazing benefits and also allows partial withdrawals. One can open the account at a post office or at one of the many designated banks located all over the country.

    When the government launched the scheme, it gave authority to the post offices in India and several banks to handle the account and make the provision for opening the accounts. Not many banks were willing to open the account in their banks initially.

    But, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has now officially started opening these accounts at 1604 of its branches all over India. Though the bank has not provided the list of these 1604 branches which have started serving for this scheme, it has provided a centralised customer care number calling which you can get the address of the branch nearest to your place.

    Given below are some of the features of the scheme

    • It is a scheme for girl child below the age of 10 years
    • The guardian or the parent can open the account under the name of the girl child
    • Only one account is allowed for every girl child
    • Deposits can be made to the account till 14 years from the date of the opening of the account
    • The minimum amount to be deposited is Rs.1000 every year
