How to Get Driving licence in Pune

If you have been wanting to apply for a driving licence in Pune but have been postponing it due to lack of time, you can now do it online. In Pune, a driving licence is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

How to apply for Learner’s Licence in Pune?

If you want to apply for driving licence, the first step is to get a Learner’s Licence (LL) in Pune. Follow the steps mentioned below to obtain an LL in Pune:

  • Visit the Sarathi Website to download the application form for applying for a new driving licence.
  • Visit the nearby RTO with the duly-filled application form and the necessary supporting documents like your identity proof, proof of residence, age proof, and passport size photographs).
  • You can book a slot online and fix the appointment before you visit the RTO.
  • On the appointment date, visit the RTO with the original and photocopies of all your documents.
  • An RTO Official will verify all your documents. Upon successful verification of all your documents, you will be allowed to take the LL test.
  • Usually a written test will have around 20 questions.

  • If you have cleared the test, you can collect a copy of your LL on the same day.

  • Visit the Maharashtra Transport official website or the Sarathi website.
  • Download the application of driving licence form.

  • Fill the required details. These include the applicant’s name, mobile number, email address, PAN number, type of motorcycle, permanent address, temporary address, birthplace, date of birth, educational qualification, identification marks, citizenship status, blood group, etc.
  • Upload the medical certificate (Form 1A), learner’s Licence, the certificate from the driving school, and any other supporting documents required.
  • Enter the captcha code and click on the “submit” button.
  • Once the application is submitted, you will get an “application reference number” and you will be allotted an appointment to visit the RTO.
  • On the appointment day, you will have to take the vehicle to the RTO. Note that the vehicle type has to be the same that was written at the time of filling the application.
  • During the driving test, you will be required to drive in the presence of the RTO Official.
  • The results will be announced in a few hours. If you fail, you will have to take the DL test after a few days.
  • If you clear the driving test, the DL will be posted to your address in a few days.

Duplicate Driving Licence at the RTO

If your DL is stolen, tampered, or misplaced, you can request for a duplicate driving licence to be issued to you. All you have to do is file a First Information Report (FIR) with the police and visit the RTO Office with a copy of the FIR and other supporting documents like duly-filled LLD form, damaged card if available, identity proof, address proof, and the fees for issuing duplicate DL. After successful verification, a duplicate driving licence will be issued to you. The documents required are:

  • Duly-filled application form

Renewal of Driving Licence in Pune

A permanent driving licence issued in Pune is usually valid for 20 years or till the applicant reaches 50 years of age, whichever is earlier. An applicant should ideally apply for renewal 30 days before the expiry date of the DL.

  • Deadline for doctor registration extended till October 30 by Pune RTO

    Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has extended the deadline for doctor registration till October 30. The decision has been taken as only 15 doctors have registered so far. As per a new set of rules given by the state transport department, any doctor who wants to register with the RTO for license-related work like providing medical certificates to driving licenses applicants need to visit the RTO office for authentication. On doing that, they will be provided with a user ID and password to access the Sarathi portal. A senior RTO official has appealed the doctors to come forward and register themselves to ensure that online work can be carried out smoothly.

  • Pune RTO has suspended close to 1,500 driving licences in the last 4 years

    Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has suspended a total of 1,500 driving licenses over the last four years. As per information released by the RTO, 685 licences were suspended in 2018 while the next two years, the number of suspended driving licenses stood at 505 and 257 respectively. In 2021, 50 driving licenses have been suspended as of September 30. The licenses have been suspended for repeated violation of traffic rules under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. The violations of which the licenses have been suspended are driving under the influence of alcohol, speaking on a mobile phone while riding or driving, and breaking a traffic signal.

  • Fine of Rs.500 to be charged for two-wheelers without rear-view mirrors and indicators

    The Bengaluru Traffic Police will be amping up the checks on two-wheelers and fine the ones which are without rear-view mirrors or indicators. This is being done to reduce the road fatalities in the city. According to Joint Commissioner (Traffic), B R Ravikanthe Gowda has stated that many accidents were due to motorists failing to use the rear-view mirror or to use the indicator before taking a turn.

    Due to this, a fine of Rs.500 will be charged on those two-wheelers which are not equipped with rear-view mirrors and functional indicators.

    Driving licence, vehicle registration along with the birth and death certificate may be linked to the Parivar Pehchan Patra or the Family ID card scheme. This scheme will be operational from January 2021.

    According to sources, the entire procedure of interlinking the documents may take more than 1 month as the verification process of the existing database of families is yet to be done. Earlier in December, the administration of the state had linked the marriage registration to the Family ID. Apart from this, the disability pension, old age allowance and widow pension have been already linked with the identity card.

As per the figures provided by RTOs in Pune, the registration of buses fell by 92% between April and October for the year 2020. In Pimpri Chinchwad, the registration of buses dropped by little over 90%.

    The situation did not improve during the festive season of Dussehra. Due to schools, religious places still not functional, and people being skeptical about taking tours, the registration of buses in Pune and nearby regions have suffered. Unfortunately, it is expected that the situation will only worsen until and unless the vaccine for Covid-19 is made available.

  • Pune police lists 100 top traffic rule offenders

    The traffic police in Pune have created a list of 100 two-wheeler riders who have the maximum penalty amount pending for not following road rules multiple times in the past few months. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI one offender topped the list with a collective fine of Rs.18,500. The commissioner added that the police had created a team to do a regular follow up with the 100-traffic rule offender. He said that the officers will collect the fine from the offenders by visiting their residence. The officers will have to take such extreme measures as the offenders have failed to respond to several police text messages.
