A key source of state revenue is the collection of road taxes. A well-known fact about the prices of cars in India is that they have two prices – the “ex. showroom price” (which is the price the manufacturer and seller charge you), and the “on-road price” (which is the ex. Showroom price plus road taxes and registration charges). The on-road price always exceeds the ex-showroom price by 10%. The on-road price for vehicles in Madhya Pradesh (Capital City: Bhopal) is the sum of the manufacturer price and the cost of registration and taxes that are due to the Central and State governments, and the cost of vehicle insurance.
