  • 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix Table for Central Government Employees

The 7th Pay Commission met with stakeholders to hear their demands which included, among other things, the common pay for entry-level employees, rationalisation of the present grade pay structure, and a transparent pay structure.

The Pay Matrix has been a simple and easily comprehensible table which is also predictable and transparent. The stakeholders interacted with the 7th Pay Commission to place their demands which varied from common treatment of similar cadres, common pay for entry-level employees, enhancement in the frequency of the Modified Assured Career Progression, transparent pay structure and rationalisation of the current grade pay structure.

All of these features have been incorporated into the new pay matrix. The grade pay has been subsumed, the levels are now rationalised, employees can now check their pay level and determine their current status as well as their potential growth over the course of their career, and the whole world of pay levels has been presented in the rationalised matrix so that it can be easily understood through one simple chart. Simplified procedures have also been recommended for the calculation of pension.

Here is the pay matrix table for employees of the Central Government:

    • Is there a Need for Overhauling the Current Income Tax Rules?

Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, recently addressed a conference of Income Tax Commissioners and stated that an overhaul of the current income tax structure was needed. The reason for suggesting the overhaul was that the current rules are more than 50 years old and are outdated with the current economic environment. Tax authorities are now working towards drafting a new income tax law. By overhauling the current laws, it is reported that it will be easier for the authorities to catch tax evaders, and that it will be easier to meet compliance.
