  • Haryana Road Tax

Haryana, filled with sprawling farms and high-tech cities, has a wide network of roadways that connect the villages, towns and cities with each other and the rest of the country. The state (Capital City: Chandigarh) collects road taxes from vehicle owners who want to ply their vehicles on roads of the states. Typically, the road taxes are collected at the time of purchase of a vehicle and subsequent registration.

    Calculating Haryana Road Tax:

Haryana levies road taxes on all types of vehicles including private and passenger, new and old, or transport and non-transport vehicles. The taxes are calculated on wide range of criteria such as age of vehicle, place of origin, weight, size, engine capacity etc. Taxes are levied as a percentage of the overall cost of vehicle or as a fixed amount as per the given criteria for a class of vehicle. The taxes are collected on a one-time basis meaning that your vehicle, once cleared of road taxes, can continue playing on Haryana roadways throughout its operating life without having to pay road taxes again.

    2 Wheeler Road Tax:

2 wheelers are levied taxes on the basis of weight or price of the vehicle in case of new vehicles and on the value of the vehicle in case of transferred vehicles from other states.

    For new vehicles:

    Weight/Price* Road Tax
Moped less than 90.73 Kg weight Rs.150 (fixed)
Vehicle valued up to Rs.20,000 2% of value of vehicle
Vehicle valued above Rs.20,000 and up to Rs.60,000 4% of value of vehicle
Vehicle valued above Rs.60,000 and up to Rs.2 lakhs 6% of value of vehicle
Vehicle valued above Rs.2 lakhs 8% of value of vehicle

    For vehicles registered outside Haryana:

    Age Road Tax
Up to 1 year old 80% of purchase value of vehicle
Above 1 year and up to 3 years old 70% of purchase value of vehicle
Above 3 years old 50% of purchase value of vehicle

*Rates given above are only for private non-transport vehicles.

Note: Value of vehicle includes all expenses or taxes paid on the vehicle purchase in India, and also the freight charges and other expenses in Indian currency for imported vehicles.

    4 Wheeler Road Tax:

4 wheeler road tax in Haryana is levied on the basis of price of vehicle in question as follows:

    Price Road Tax
Cars up to Rs.6 lakhs 3% of value of vehicle
Cars above Rs.6 lakhs and up to Rs.10 lakhs 6% of value of vehicle
Cars above Rs.10 lakhs and up to Rs.20 lakhs 8% of value of vehicle
Cars above Rs.20 lakhs 9% of value of vehicle

*Rates given above are only for private non-transport vehicles.
