  2. Value of the FD upon maturity

Formula of NRI FD Calculation

The formula for the calculation of NRI FD of two types of fixed deposits available in the market are mentioned below -

Simple Interest Fixed Deposit Formula

M = P + (P x R x T/ 100)

In the formula,

M stands for the maturity value

P stands for Principal amount deposited

R stands for the rate of interest offered by the bank

T stands for tenure

Example - Ms. Pooja deposits Rs.1,000,000 for a five-year period in her fixed deposit account. Let's say that the rate of interest offered during the term was 10%. The maturity value at the end will be:

M = 1,000,000 + (1,00,000 x 10 x 5/100)

 M = 1,50,000

Compound Interest Fixed Deposit Formula

M = P + P {(1 + i / 100) t – 1}

In the formula,

M stands for the maturity value

P stands for Principal amount deposited

I stands for the rate of interest offered by the bank

T stands for tenure

Example - Ms. Pooja deposits Rs.1,000,000 for a five-year period in her fixed deposit account. Let's say that the rate of interest offered during the term was 10%. The maturity value at the end will be:

M = 1,00,000 + 1,00,000 {(1 + 10 / 100) 5 – 1}

 M = Rs.1,61,051
