      I am having recurring deposit with SBI, I opened the RD by visiting SBI branch. On the same day RD account got activated. But I felt interest rate is low they offering only 7.1% of interest, I have invested the amount of Rs. 1 lakh for the tenure of 15 month, after maturity of the RD. I would be getting the return around 1.08 lakh.

      When I have started to deposit the money I was getting good interest rate but know the rate of interest is decreased with SBI Fixed deposit. I have started the fixed deposit around 6 years ago with SBI. Initially I got around 9.5% as interest rate but now I am getting only 7.5% interest rate. The service with State is good.

    Features of FCNR Account

    One of the major benefits about having an FCNR account is that the interest earned is exempted from tax. The principal amount deposited in the account is also exempted from Wealth Tax in India. Here are some features of the FCNR account:

    • Only Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or NRIs can open an account.
    • The account can be opened in US Dollar, British Pound, Euro, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollar, and Canadian Dollar.
    • Interest on the FCNR account is paid regularly.
    • The account can be opened jointly with resident Indians or other NRIs

    • FCNR Interest Rates Changed by Indian Bank

      Indian bank has revised the interest rate for FCNR term deposits recently. The new interest rate is 2.33% in USD terms for deposits of 1 year to below 2 years. Earlier, the interest rate for this tenure was 2.26%. The interest rate for deposits of 2 years to below 3 years has been increased to 2.57% from 2.52%. There is no change in the interest rates for deposits of 3 years to 5 years.

      The bank has also launched a new mobile application called ‘DigiLock’ and Direct Tax Payment service through debit card. Using the DigiLock mobile application, customers can store and lock their debit, credit, mobile banking and net banking services. The Direct Tax Payment service allows customers to pay their direct tax using their debit cards.
