If you are a citizen of India who is aged 60 years and above then you as a senior citizen can open a fixed deposit (FD) account with the Bank of India, where based on the tenure and deposit made by you will enjoy certain benefits including additional interest on your deposits when compared to what is offered to a general individual. Bank of India FD rates range from 3.00% p.a. to 7.10% p.a. for Senior Citizens and 3.00% p.a. to 7.25% p.a. for Super Senior Citizens.

Things to know About Bank of India "Senior Citizens FD"

  1. Senior Citizens (aged 60 to below 80 years) are eligible for an extra 0.50% interest on Retail Term Deposits (below Rs. 3 Cr) with a term of 6 months to less than 3 years. 
  1. Super Senior Citizens (aged 80 years and above) are eligible for an additional 0.65% interest on Retail Term Deposits (below Rs. 3 Cr) with a term of 6 months to less than 3 years. 

For deposits of 3 years to 10 years: 

  1. Senior Citizens get an extra 0.25% interest, on top of the regular 0.50%, making a total additional interest of 0.75%. 
  1. Super Senior Citizens also get an extra 0.25% interest, on top of the regular 0.65%, resulting in a total additional interest of 0.90%.
