Learning Licence in Meghalaya

If you are below the age of 18 years or if you are learning to drive for the first time, and have a vehicle then you can apply for a learner's licence which will be valid for six months. Once the validity of your learner's licence is over, you will have to apply for a driving licence within 30 days of its expiry.  

Types of Learners Licence

There are different types of learner's licence that you must be aware of:

How to Apply for a Learners Licence Online in Meghalaya

  1. Click on this link https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/#.
  2. Select 'Meghalaya' from the drop-down menu.
  3. Scroll down and under Driver/Learner's licence click on 'More'.
  4. Click on 'Apply for Learner's licence'.
  5. Click on 'Continue'.
  6. Select an appropriate category and select 'Applicant does not hold any Driving/Learner licence issued in India'.
  7. The application form will be displayed on your screen. Fill out the form and make sure all the details mentioned are correct.
  8. Once you have filled out the form, click on 'Submit'.
  9. You will then have to schedule a time and date to take your test and pay the registration fee. Once you pass the test, police verification will be done and then you will be provided with a learner's licence.

How to Apply for a Learners Licence Offline in Meghalaya

You can visit the nearest RTO in Meghalaya to apply for a learner's licence. Fill in the application form and submit it along with all the necessary documents and pay the registration fee. Schedule a time and date so that you can appear for your test. Once you clear the test, police verification will be done and then you will be issued a learner's licence.

Eligibility criteria for Learners Licence in Meghalaya

  1. The minimum eligibility age is 16 years if you own a non-geared motorbike or engine with capacity up to 50cc.
  2. The minimum eligibility age is 18 years if you own a light motor vehicle.
  3. If you own a commercial vehicle, then the minimum eligible age is 20 years.
  4. You must be aware of all the traffic rules and regulations in Meghalaya.
